Hi Guys,
This morning before work i checked on my computer and everything was fine. I was in a hurry to get to work so I put the cover in sleep mode. When i got to work and tried to boot up my computer, the power light goes on but the screen is still black. I can hear the hard drive and fans running but just nothing on the screen. I've tried taking out the battery and some other things but I was wondering if this happened before for people with Sager NP2092. My computer is running Window 7. Please help!
I forgot to mention that I've put the computer in sleep mode/hibernate many times and it's never had a problem booting back up. Just closing the lid works as well but now it's just a black screen.

Have you hard powered down the system by holding in the power button for 5-10 seconds and then trying to power it on?
-
Yeah, i just tried that. I even tried turning it on and taking out the battery than powering back up. No luck.
-
i think im going to pull out the cmos battery so the bios resets. hopefully that works... cause right now, not even the post is coming on the screen. can we even open the sager np2092 all the way?
-
I would assume you can, however it could be that your screen happened to die in transit. What you should do first is connect it to an external monitor upon booting and use the function keys to select an external monitor viewing. If it displays anything, then I'd say it was your screen. If it does not display anything, then it would be your video card. removing the cmos battery won't help much if you haven't done any BIOS-overclocking
-
i tried connecting it to a external earlier at work and nothing happened. Can something like this happen to my video card just after putting the computer to sleep mode?
-
it's not that it's after putting it to sleep, it's that your video card probably just gave out. It reached the end of its life, etc. I suggest looking toward a new one if you want a good model, why not try the NP2098 if you want the same kind of model? And for the love of your own sanity, stay away from Windows 7 for the time, it isn't as yet compatible with everything. Stick with Vista x64 is my advice.
But if that isn't tickling your computer-senses, then try seeing if you can send it to a repair store and see. I think the 8600m was welded onto the Motherboard so it may not be replaceable. But you will see. If you upgrade you'll get DDR3 RAM more than likely because most new sagers come with it.
Also I'd advise against hibernating if you can, it's not the best idea and often causes problems, if you have done it previously and never gotten any you're lucky, but again sleep or shutdown trust me on this one. -
man this is horrid. i got this laptop near the end of my senior year in high school, so its only a little over a year and a half, maybe 2 years old. i'm going to be a soph in college this year. I've heard of problems in the 8600m but i didnt think it was this bad. man this sucks, my uncle works at sager though and the computer is under warranty.. i guess ill see what i can do.
-
if it's under warranty, would sager be willing to replace the whole motherboard (since the nvidia 8600m is welded on)? Or do i need to look into a new laptop..
-
They ought to replace the motherboard for you, but if your uncle works at sager why not see if he can hook you up with a better model? Have him give you as a christmas present or something lol
No but seriously, sometimes things just go bad, that's all. No getting around it, but again just my suggestion is look toward the 2098, you'll get DDR3 RAM and an ATI HD 4650 with it. Also a nice Core2Duo you could take a 2.53 GHz and blow through games and work alike!
If you're starved for money though the warranty should work for you. No need to worry much. But you may indeed have to redo your whole system because of the fact that changing a motherboard requires windows to be re-activated in most cases. I say if you gotta buy over windows XP or Vista, what's the point? Just upgrade and be done with it. But then again that's just me I'm a computer freak.
You can keep asking me though I'll tell you as much as I know -
Yeah, my uncle will be calling me back soon so I'll let you know what he says. It would be awesome to upgrade but we'll see. Thank god i have a sled so i can pull all my info off the hard drive.
-
Sled? What's that? And you could pop the drive into any computer if you wanted I believe, as long as you got the stuff for it

Yeah. I also have a external hd thing that works with all laptop satas. I like the 2098 a lot except for the crappy screen resolution. I'll see what my uncle can do, at worst ill send it in to get it fixed. Such crappy timing though... I start school next week.
-
Soviet! You have arrived O.O
And yeah I know the resolution stinks, but look at it this way, low resolution = games run better =P
Unlike me who can't bear to have anything lower than 1920x1200 >.>
My screen spoilt me =(
Anyway yeah see what you can do, and I gotta get myself one of those empty shells and buy a 2TB HDD and plop it in. A lot cheaper than buying a 2TB external drive in itself lol.
Anyway good luck friend. -

Yes, you are very spoiled. On my previous Clevo, I used to play all my games at 960x600 on a 15 inch 1920x1200 panel. Now on my M570TU, I still play all my games at a downscaled resolution of 1440x900 on a 17 inch 1920x1200 panel.

Danny, I notice that back in March, you had a topic titled, " Sager NP2092 Screen Occasionally Becomes Fuzzy HELP!!!"
I'm going to assume that the writing on the wall has finally come to fruition.
If you can score a 2098, take it. -
=) -
Yeah. I think my video card is dead. My uncle called back and told me he'll have a technician call me tomorrow and troubleshoot. I'll have to ship the computer back and we'll see what happens. Hopefully i get it back soon because i need it for classes next Monday..
-
alright man well I wish you luck, any more support you need we'll be here for you lol

Do you need a hug?
-
hahah. i thank you all for your help. so annoying, the screws for the hd compartment are too tight.. i can't get them off so i can't back up any data at the moment. i just spoke to my dad and he told me if they replace cpu/mobo, i don't need to reformat so hopefully i don't lose anything.
-
That happened to me too, when I had to remove my hard drive and send it up to Sager, it was ridiculously tight

As a general rule, it is not good to put a laptop in a bag if it is in sleep mode; as it is still on, it can get quite hot and fry components (not to mention the battery running down during transport)

It depends on the notebook. Not all sleep modes are the same. For modern notebooks such as our Clevo's, it is perfectly fine as the ACPI will put the entire system in full S3 mode, which cuts power to all components except for the memory. As long as you don't open the display lid or press the power button, your computer will stay asleep. You do not need to worry about the components getting hot during full S3. That is a myth. I have been using sleep mode on all three of my Clevo's when I need a short term powerdown such as when I'm moving to another class. The only heat that is going to be in the bag is from the components passively dissipating. I can guarantee you it's not going to get hotter than the temperature prior to engaging sleep mode.
If you engage sleep mode while you have low battery and you do not wake up your notebook after a long period of time, as in after several hours, then you would lose any data not saved in the memory once the battery cuts off current. Though I doubt that any responsible user would engage sleep mode while on low battery. However, sleep mode on our Clevo's uses very little power and should not take more than two seconds to enter sleep or wake up from sleep. Hibernate takes a lot longer to complete as the OS would need to create an image of your RAM onto the HDD. This takes longer and uses more power at the initial start compared to sleep mode. Also, waking up from hibernate also takes more time and more power. And I think you know what I'm going to say for a full shutdown and reboot so I'll save you the bore. The only way that sleep mode would consume more power than hibernate or shutdown is if it is kept asleep for a very, very long time as I have mentioned above. -
The NP9280 draws lots of power from sleep though, I believe 2 hours of sleep for it is somewhere near 10% of the battery, my old HP would draw 20% of the battery if I left it asleep for 14 hours. I wonder why my clevo does this if only the memory is to be powered? The battery is twice as large as the HP and the RAM takes less voltage

That's because the D900F's desktop i7 doesn't have that deep of a S3 mode like mobile CPU's and it has three RAM modules.
-
awww.... oh well... at least it stays nice and cool!
put computer in sleep mode, computer not booting up now
