I know it sounds weird, but I am thinking to downgrade my processor. The noise annoys me quite a lot and I want something more silent. I am running my q9450 at 2GHz all the time and I still want something more silent. Since I use my computer mostly for testing the q8200s seems like a good choice for less noise.
Is the q8200s work in D901C? What is the smallest speed at which q8200s runs?

It should work. Same socket type, 1333MHz FSB, 65W TDP. Just make sure you have the .22 BIOS and .13N KBC/EC firmware.

Edit: FSBxMultiplier, looks like the lowest speed you'll get is 2.0GHz.

You are right th lowest speed I can get is 2GHz (6x333). So there is no point to change it .

My Q9650 doesn't generate any more noise that my previous cpu's (E8400 and E6850). So I am not sure if that processor downgrade of yours will do any good.

Clean out your fans and vents and see what happens if you remove two of your hard disks and one of your video cards!!

I will try that. I am waiting for a new hdd of 1TB and I will clean the vents when it comes as well. For the video cards I was thinking to downlock them if it can be done safely with some windows software.

You could sell one of those 8800m gtx babies to me *cough* That should get rid of some of your heat ;)

Yeah but cleaning the vents (as well as the fan blades) should help you a lot, I've got a 9450 too and I don't have any problems with fans spinning in idle.
