    Hey,

Just going through SIW and saw that my core 2 multiplier is 9.0 (speed 2995.8 MHz) while 0,1 and 3 are at 6.0 (speed 1997.2 MHz)

    is this bad?

I'm about to go through a whole bunch of upgrades and really need the reliability of a stable system performing at its max (getting 2x4gb RAM, and a quadro fx 3700m within a few days)

any help would be appreciated (any more info needed?)
    running win7 x64

EDIT: apologies, when the CPU's under stress all 4 go to 9 mult and 2995MHz spd, disregard

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Does q9650 support the different multipliers depending on the stress? I thought that only the mobile processor were able to to that. This means much less heat while on idle.

hmmm, well when idle, my multipliers are at 6, with a speed of 2ghz

when maxed out, with all 4 CPUS at 100% I only see the 2 last cores being utilized with a 9 multiplier (see imgs 2 and 3 of first post)

so it looks like it supports different multipliers, but I don't think they are user-customizable...?

No, they're not user customizable (sadly).

My Q9650 doesn't seem to have the same behavior as yours, though I don't use the same program you have there.

    i can confirm.

My Q9650 downclocks only in 2 occasions:

    1) In power saving mode, this can be activated using the Win7 power options (which i suppose makes it kinda user customisable?) and
    2) Running old x86 programs (strangely). This hasn't happened often, in fact the only 2 instances it has ever happened is running Bunkspeed Hypershot x86 and the Prince of Persia line of games.

@Satch420, I don't think I've ever managed to get all 4 cores to work at 100%. were you benchmarking?

I was wondering if it down-clocks 2 cores while other two are at maximum.

just rendering, although it is maya 64bit, but I've always been able to get 100% on all 4 cores

this is not true on non-64 bit programs, like through rhino or 3dstudio... which is a shame and hopefully they fix that soon... b/c it seems the only people who need all cores are using it for rendering/some sort of calculations...

as per downclocking, my win7 settings for power-saving have the min and max at 100%, so technically it shouldn't downclock... but i suppose as long as it jumps back to a 9 multiplier when I need it then it's not a problem
