You can upgrade to at least an 8700 from what I know. I'm still waiting to find out if you can put in an 8800 because if you can, I'm buying it.

    1. They are in stock and shipping will begin this week for pre-orders.
    2. The MCE Remote is required for XP MCE and Vista Premium or Ultimate. It is infra red, not Bluetooth. The custom configurator you are using should offer both the standard remote for XP Home and Pro, and Vista Business, and the MCE Remote for XP MCE and Vista Premium or Ultimate. Check for example the Configurator at http://www.powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=474
    3. The 8800M will not be released until this Winter. No one can tell you if you can upgrade to a card that doesn’t exist. The 8800M may have power and thermal requirements that exceed the current specs of the laptops that are out now. You can only hope and wait to see if it will be upgradeable.
    4. The fingerprint reader will allow you to encrypt boot up and any application, folder or file. It also stores your user IDs and passwords for websites. You simply swipe your finger across it to work it.
    5. You cannot upgrade CPUs across different platforms. Any CPU upgrade would have to be supported by the Intel 965 chipset.

It says that the 5790 is dual hardrive capable. Yet, in configuration, the option for a second HD does not exist. However, on Pioneer notebook's website, the second HD is configurable.

Question: can the 5790 be custom ordered with a 2nd HD without Raid or with Raid?

The Sager NP5790 does not support a 2nd HD.

Where did you see that is says it does?

"They are in stock and shipping will begin this week for pre-orders." -Donald.

Whoa. I was told by Xoticpc (where I pre-ordered my 5790 from) that they will only start shipping out the computer in 2-3 weeks.

All I can say is w.t.f.

    Several places:

    1. Xotic PC's webpage for it. It states in the graphic that it's Dual harddrive capable.
    http://www.xoticpc.com/product_info.php?products_id=2023

    2. Don't laugh but... on pioneer's webpage during config. It lists option of 2nd HD.
    http://www.pioneercomputers.com.au/products/configure.asp?c1=3&c2=15&id=2249

    3. Mtech also:
    http://www.m-techlaptops.com/specifications/mtechm570a.html

    4. In section 6-4 of the owner's manual PDF file found on Clevo's website, it implies that one can have more than 1 HD.
    http://www.clevo.com.tw/download/USRManualOut.asp?model=M57xRU&menual=+GO+

    Any clarification would be appreciated.

I meant that they are 2-3 weeks out from shipping to the customer, after assembly or w/e.

I understand that they have already shipped from Sager to the retailers.

Oh and by the way, is Sager pronounced with a hard 'g' as in 'Garth' or a soft 'g' as in 'manager.' I've heard it pronounced both ways but don't know which one is correct.

The 5790 chassis is somewhat similar to the 5760, from what I've gathered. And like the 5760, from what I've been told, you can have 2 HD's with one of the HD taking up the space of the optical drive. If you're into RAID, then you'll have to use an external optical drive. But if you're not into RAID, then you can hot-swap your secondary HD with the optical drive. I'm not sure why Sager is not offering this with the 5790 as they did with the 5760. I haven't physically laid hands on the Clevo 570RU to confirm this but have been told by a system builder that you can have 2 HD's.

That sort of setup would suit me just fine. Can hardly wait to get my hands on one. But it looks like months. The Geforce 8800m GTX is a must have for me.

    Thanks for the reply.

Im curious what makes the 8800m a must have. I'm betting it wont be long after the 8800 ships we will hear about the new "8900" right after.

I tried waiting for it...I waited about 1 day then I placed my 5790
    order.

I've always wondered that too. I say "Say-jurr" because the guy in this video (review of the 9260) says it that way.

I'm pretty sure the 5790 doesn't support two HD's. The old 5760 did by using a bracket to replace the optical disk drive, but Paladin posted earlier saying that it's not an option (although that might have changed since then).

Because it will be the first "real" video card that supports DX10. It's not so much about improved performance (new cards will always come out), but it will be the first DX10 card that will beat the current champ, the Go 7950 GTX (unlike the 8700M GT). That's why everybody is waiting for it, if they can.

It has not changed...the Sager NP5790 does not support a 2nd HDD in the Optical Bay.

The 8800M will not be out until sometime this Winter...or Spring of next year.

2.0 thanks for pointing this typo out on our site. It has since been corrected.

As Donald states the 5790 can not have 2 hard drives. :(

    Sure thing Justin.

No biggie that it only has one HD. I plan on getting it with the 200GB 300sata and virtualizing 60GB or so as a "secure" environment when doing shady (read: questionable) web surfing and trying out beta software.

I'll still buy an extra HD of less capacity just to have it in case things go south. Though I've never had a problem with a HD.

Here's the other thing I think is missing on Xotic's site in the specs for the NP5790: the 2watt subwoofer.

Seriously, I can hardly wait to buy this. And to think, I was going to get a Dell. For shame.

Thanks for the info, we have posted the Subwoofer in the Specs of the 5790. We value your input and appreciate it. We try to be very accurate but sometimes there is something that slips through the cracks.
