hi i just noticed these two machines

http://powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=342
seem to be very similar. I was wondering which one you thought was a better deal?
I mean the alienware does have the s logo and it only starts at $1300 more.
i was thinking of paying 550 to upgrade it to the 2.15 core duo too. what about you guys you think thats a good deal?

They're not the same machine - the Clevo M570U, which is the Sager, cannot have two hard drives in a RAID configuration, it only has one dedicated internal drive. The drive that can be put in the modular bay can't be used in RAID 0.
As far as price/performance goes, the Sager is a much better deal. The Alienware is priced pretty high; you could get a fully spec'd out Sager NP5760 with a Go7900GTX for that.
Processor - Alienware has not factored in Intel's price drops on the Core Duo yet, notice how much cheaper the upgrades are on the NP5750. -
Alienware = pay an extra $1000 for a fancy paint job and a logo = ripoff.

I have to agree--Alienwares are very expensive. From what I've seen, you can't beat Sager for performance-to-price ratio.
Some ASUS models are also good for that, but only if you want mid-range performance. -
I mean its a clevo, it looks the same. its the special alienware version of the same thing with 2 hds?
or alienware can modify it itself. -

It is the same computer...period. Both will accept 2 hard drives and have exactly the same features except...the Alienware LCD cover and you get a black T-Shirt...oh, and of course their infamous customer service.

Do you mean the Alienware and the Sager are the same machine? The Alienware is different, take a look at the design:
http://www.alienware.com/special_ed...SysCode=PC-LT-A51M5750-SM&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT
It can also have RAID, the Sager cannot have that from what I know.
Looks like a Uniwill; if not that, then perhaps an Arima, Alienware is using them now - example would be the M9700 SLI 17". -

ChazMan...I spoke without looking...
I apologize. I did the dreaded ASSUME...
Well, at least the customer service bit was accurate. -
Yes...I can attest to a friend who purchased from alienware and had to experiance there TERRIBLE customer support. Ouch. Wouldn't buy from them, ever, after hearing his horror story.
-
oh seems to be an arima model so never mind
apples and oranges. I thought it was the same thing because it came out the same time as the new sager came out but its actually something different
i mean it is actually worth a lot more with its x1800 -

I'm surprised that ATI is pushing its X1800 in the notebook market. It's probably only because they have nothing else to offer at the moment. On the desktop, the X1800 series has already been phased out and is being replaced very quickly by the X1900 series. Right now the remaining X1800 cards are being sold off for cheap. Hopefully there will be a mobile variant of the X1900 soon.
quick price comparison
