I am going to purchase this laptop this week. I am wondering, is it worth it do you guys think to upgrade to the 1920x1200 screen? I would mainly use this laptop for gaming and watching movies and shows. Plus daily browsing and other office tasks.

lol nirvana... just saw your avy... somehow black and white was so much better lol.

Well I have a 1920x1200 screen on my dell xps m1530 and I love it....lots of desktop space and great for movies!!!
-
haha, thanx guys. I will hit up the 1920x1200 then for sure!
-
the new one actually gave me headache, don't know why. switched to another one.
-
It depends on taste and need.
I find that 17 inchers go perfectly with WUXGA if they`re paired with a 8800M GTX or 9800M GT. -
You're Indian?
-
my id = secret baby

Like the poster above, you may just love that resolution, but before buying you should try and see what a 15" screen with 1920x1200 actually looks like. There certainly would be lots of room on your screen, but everything, especially text, will be much smaller than what you're used to seeing.
I have a 24" monitor with that same resolution - it's great. I can't imagine trying to post on this board, though, if that resolution were on a screen as small as 15".
To each his own. Good luck. -
hahahaha
Well, not many Indians where you're from.
Especially those with the same command of languages.
Still, to each his/her own.
Anyway, I agree with Eleron though, resolution is very much of a personal taste. If possible, try to get some experience with a 1920 x 1200 screen before making a final decision. -
Once you go WUXGA, you dont go back.
-
Fair point, but he is looking at the 5796, so a 17" screen, not 15"...
-
nirvana, can u please change your avatar?it kills me
-
lol, and that one doesn't?
I feel like he's touching my soul in inappropriate places.
As for the monitor, I was perfectly pleased with 1920x, and I wear glasses. Text was small, but it's not about size, it's about how you use it. Almost all operating systems and browsers allow you to increase the size of text and icons, if they're just way too small for you.
The only drawback to 1920x that I can think of is that you'll get much lower performance when drawing to a larger surface while gaming. That means that, when playing games, you'll either need to reduce your graphics settings, reduce your resolution (which can result in stretching/squashing) or just deal with lower framerates.
With that said, though, the same problems can come up when playing on ANY high-resolution monitor. Real gamers play at 640x480, baby. ;} -
I got the NP5796 with the 1680x1050 res.... i dunno what i was thinking but i felt like saving a 100 bucks and knew i could run almost all games at max at that res..... oh well whatever.... the 1680x1050 should still look great right? i mean i have a 22" 1680x1050 monitor and it looks good
-
I think 1680x1050 better for gaming imo - less eye strain, still a TON of real estate, and its MATTE... Glossy screens piss me off.
-
you will love 1680x1050.. I used to have the glossy 1920x1080 or w/e and i prefer the 1680x1050 wont ever use the WUXGA again.. my eyes are way less tired, games look better and i get better performance at the native res. plus again its matte.
you wont even notice a difference compared to its bigger brother (unless u watch BDRAYS i think) -
lol nirvana nice mugshot
-
i dunno if the 1680x1050 is matte on the np5796... on the sager website it calls it 17" Wide Viewing Angles WSXGA+ LCD with Super Glossy Surface (1680 x 1050)
-
ew its not matte anymore? that sucks..
-
meh im sure it will be fine.... i wish it would just get here though ONE MORE DAY
-
first come to the forum, I think you are Chinese/Taiwanese since you can read Chinese letters.
-
you are close.
-
He was very close huh, are you Korean? 한국어 하세요?
-
since he did some simplified chinese characters a bit back, I would guess more chinese then Taiwanese.
-
I actually know, but I'm playing nice.
I just didn't think it was likely Nirvana's Indian. -
the software i use can switch between them both automatically. in real life i can't write simplified chinese at all. hints: my place better than both.
-
Hahahahahhahaha, I think some people would disagree.
-
haha, with the majiks of the internet and computers, thats possible.
Can't really say I disagree till I know where you are truly from, so give us another less subjecting hint like where geographically. Till then, I'm guessing japan. -
I am from Hong Kong if you wanna know. LOL
currently live in NYC. -
Man, why did you have to tell?
-
Since we're digging pretty deep into you personal life, wanna share with us what you do for a living to constantly get better computers... AND have such a nice car in NYC?
-
i sold 2000 hotdogs for my 5793, and 50 thousand cans of soda for the 911.
-
Wow, this thread came a long way from screen resolutions...LOL
-
Terrible Terrible Terrible liar.
-
of course that is just my side job. i was sent to surveillance IBM.
-
Of course.
-
lolz Nirvana: why dont you post your pic so we can see? I never see your system on Show us your computer room. Give us a shot, plz
-
You're right. Somehow, I managed to get into my head that the OP was talking about a Dell 1530. ???
Should have had a second coffee before posting. LOL -
So you're the one who overcharged me for that can of coke the other day!
-
That's nice furniture; now you just need to learn some refinishing techniques!
-
Or a wider bench, that looks way too narrow to be comfortable.
-
Probably a taller bench as the desk is way too high.
-
Hey Nirvana thats my Hotdog stand liar why are you claiming that is yours huh huh !!!
-
Instead of making a new thread, I figured I'd add to this already derailed one
My question pertains to the NP8660 (M860TU). I'd really like to get the matte screen but I'm not so interested in the 1920x1200 resolution on a 15.4" notebook. Would it make sense to get the matte screen anyways, but run at 1680x1050 anyways? -
At first I had my NP5796 order for the WUXGA. At the last minute I changed to WSXGA because I realized that I am not that picky about stuff like that. And the difference in games to me would probably be hardly noticable. And I don't care about "Full HD" movies (whatever that even means... jk i know what it means it's just so uneccessary IMO). In the end I didn't see the $95 WUXGA as worth it. Downscaling is the issue a lot of people seem to raise up but I am sure it's not THAT bad downscaling on WSXGA. Also, you can play newer games at native Res.
-
Anyone?

Personally, I think it would depend on whether you find a matte screen that important to you. Just remember that running in a non-native resolution can cause some degradation in graphic quality.
quick question, is wuxga upgrade to 1920x1200 worthy upgrade for np5796
