I also recommend you get hold of some Arctic MX3 thermal paste, ArctiClean thermal paste remover and a lint free cloth to use. -
When did you purchase your laptop? Double check if it can handle Quad processor.

my system was purchased in July 2008 and is currently running montevina with t9600. Cheers all, how easy is the swap to do on this lappy?

I agree with Blacky, I don't think your MB will support Quads.
You could check the MB version under the first RAM module, anything with a -1 at the end of the MB version supports Quads I think (like: V3.0B-1 or V3.1B-1).
Also, you can get Q9200 (much cheaper) if you get it from E-Bay, it has the same speeds as a QX9300 in a M570TU because of the half multipliers not being supported . -
Agh, okay, I shall have a look at that. So are you saying it MAY not support quads in general or that hte QX9200 may well work with it?
Cheers -
they want to say that your mb wont support quad cores. i think the best upgrade for you would be the x9100.

not sure if this is relevant but....

I tried to say your M570TU probably doesn't support any Quad Core at all because of the older Motherboard. Mine is from November2008 and doesn't support Quads.
There is a difference between a M570TU and M571TU (or M570ETU), I think you can't see the difference on the outside, maybe on the green sticker at the bottom of your laptop...
You probably have a M570TU, those don't support quads.
If you want to be sure, check the sticker under the first RAM module. If it doesn't end with '-1' it does not support quad cores.
This is mine, from november 08, and is a V3.0B so doesn't support quads.
if yours states V3.0B-1 or V3.1B-1 it does supports quad core cpu's.
It's best to check first before ordering any quad core.
The other thing i tried to say was, if yours DOES support quad cores, the Q9200 and QX9300 both give the same speed (MHz) in a M570TU, and both are overclockable from the BIOS, only the Q9200 is much cheaper.
I hope this makes sense, I'm sorry for the bad english -
It would seem that Clevo has simply labeled all the M570TU (including M570ETU) as M570TU on its website, as the M570TU supposedly supports QX9300 according to the website. -
wickedness......i am SOOOO hoping I have a -1
Also ima go home tonight and compressed air the laptop fans whilst i have the covers off. -

Have a look at the Clevo Guide.
-
well i have the dreaded -0 under my ram which is a shame does this mean the max i can get away with is the x9100???
