is it possible to replace an ATI HD3870 with a 9800 gts, and then SLI it?

i just thought because on the desktop, you need a compatible motherboard to use either and only a select few could do both.

if not, i'm sure i can do a crossfire setup, but i prefer nvidia.

I am not sure what you are getting at.

Only the Clevo D901C (Sager 9262) has SLI capabilities... and for the time being only a number of videocards have full support for SLI:
    - 8700M GT
    - 8800M GTX
    - 9800M GT

The ATI 3870 is only an option for the Clevo M860TU (Sager 8660).. which is a single card notebook.

i was told that you could do SLI and crossfire on 860

on a side note, do you think i would be able to put future graphics card (e.g. nvidia 10880m gts) in this laptop, as long as they keep under the heat budget.

Whoever told you that clearly don't know anything about laptop. np8660 aka m860tu only support 1 card. for upgradeable to future cards, as long as sager support it, you are good to go.

    No you cannot.
Depending on the laptop, you may or may not SLI it.
Only the 9262 has that ability, the 860TU and the 570TU have only 1 card, the latter featuring the upcoming 9800M GTX.
