I just bought a P151HM1 and its waiting for me at home when I get back from working on the road. I'm going to swap either the HDD or the optical drive for an SSD.

Initially I was going to swap out the HDD, but can you just swap the optical drive without needing any modifications? Or is that a bit more of a task. I think I'd make a lot more use out of an internal HDD for storage than I would an optical drive.

Also, will any 2.5" drive fit in the body? I know it says something about 'super slim' HDD but I think its probably just a standard 2.5", no?

    Thanks

SATA is SATA. It dont matter if you have an optical drive, SSD or HDD. The issue is that you might need some type of adapter to mount the 2.5" drive in the optical bay.

You'd need to get a hard drive caddy for the bay. It's basically an adapter to securely hold a drive in the large space of the optical drive bay. Maybe you can contact your reseller and purchase one through them.

All 2.5" drives should fit fine under ~9mm tall or something like that. That is pretty much any normal drive I think.

Yeah since you need something else to replace the optical drive I think I'll just replace the HDD and throw it in an enclosure. Gonna throw a Crucial M4 120GB in there :)

    Cheers

Not to grill you, but you are INCORRECT on the drive bay width. Optical drives come in 2 sizes (9.5mm and 12.7mm).

The Sager NP8130/8150/8170 uses 12.7mm. DO NOT BUY THE 9.5MM DRIVE

I purchased mine online last week for my Sager and it came in yesterday. I just moved my 500GB drive to the enclosure and pulled out the optical drive (single screw comes out under the HDD bay door which holds the optical drive)

    Works great! See below =)

Thanks again for the help. If I were to want to get an enclosure, would I have to get it through a Sager dealer or is that something you can find at a local store typically?

I bought mine on Ebay for 15.00 shipped. You can buy one through your retailer, and it MIGHT have the Sager faceplate / bezel so it matches.

    Confirm with a reseller =)

    thx.

also the optical drive is Sata II while the main drives are Sata III, so it also depends on the SSD you'll be putting in there :D
best would be to remove the hdd and put it in the caddy/optical slot and put your ssd on the main slot.

You can purchase your caddy from your reseller and it will come with the matching bezel so that you do not have to transfer the old one to the caddy. I bought mine from MALIBAL.

Probably wouldn't be worth it for me since I already had my laptop shipped. I'm just going to replace the HDD for an SSD and store all my data on an external :p. Seems like the most sensible option for my situation :). Really excited to get home in ~20 days to play with my new laptop though.. couldn't come sooner! Damn work getting in the way..
