i got my notebook back in sept, and everything worked fine. i was able to play bioshock, cod4 or tf2 for hours and it would not shut down or feel seriously hot to the touch.

but now, it does. just an hour of Cs:s and Riva tuner says my core temp is in the 90c.

right now, it's idling at about 66. and thats on a stand. what gives? i just feel like it shouldn't be this bad.

i intend to get a can of air and take some q-tips to it as well.

but could it really be something that simple that would raise the temp so much?

Yes, it can. I had the exact same problem. I got my 2090 and was able to play without problem for several weeks. Then I did not play for several months and when I played again I had overheating problems. I used a can of compressed air and bingo! That fixed the problem.

99% of overheating gaming notebooks is dust clogging the vents (not the fans that much)

Also, drivers have a huge importance, the 174-5.x series seem to run hotter.
Try Undervolting the CPU , guide link in my sig, since I think you only a shared heatsink for GPU and CPU, if I`m not mistaken..
Also, check if your pad is actually working, a Zalman NC1000 or NC2000 would be better .

that beast won't fit the NC1000. The Zalman NC2000 is awesome.

The 2092? It will, the NC1000 fits most 15 inchers.
The NC2000 is suited for 17 inchers too, although it's only a bit larger than the 1000 series.
I had my NX9420 17incher on a NC1000 for a short while and had no problems.

You can't physically see it unless you get an owner to meet with you.
However, you can look for resellers around or you could ask a 2092 owner to send you pics of it.
PM Pukemon , he`ll be glad to help.

I'm having similar problems with my 2090. Shuts off seemingly randomly while I'm playing DoD: Source and the back left corner is extremely hot to the touch.

What part do I have to dismantle to clean the dust out? I assume it involves more than shooting compressed air into the vents.

    Thanks!

the odd shaped panel. then take the 3 screws off the fan. that should be enough to get most if not all dust out.

Shooting compressed air into the vents was enough for me.

    Hi folks,

I have had a Dell Inspiron 8100 for the past 5 years ... and I turned it on everyday from 7:00AM until 7:00PM at night and run all kind of stuff on it ... never had a problem with "DUST" ...

Q1: What is it with Sager NP2090 that causes the darn thing to get lint or dust accumulated in it so fast??? -- I guess I should expect same Problem with my upcoming 2092 -- ???

Q2: @ Mongoose ... how long have you had your 2090 ... before started "Heating Up"???

Q3: @ Lemur ... how often do you take your "Compressed Can of Air" ... and just shoot it in the Vents in the back of the unit?

Also a "Dumb" Q ... do you shoot the air in an angle so the dust can be Blown Out ... rather than packed in!?!?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

The inspiron is not a gaming notebook. Most gaming notebooks stress out the CPU and GPU and are heavily reliant on the fans power to controlthe temperatures. Thus they are very sensitive to dust build up.

I've owned the laptop for about a year now and I've used the compressed air only once. Basically, I game intensively for a few weeks then I don't game for a few months, then I game again for a few weeks, etc. I got the machine last summer and was able to game fine. Then I stopped gaming until the holidays. At that point, I had a heat problem so I used the can. It has been a while since I've gamed so if I start gaming again, I'll probably have to use the can again. (Ok, before someone makes a bad joke when I say "use the can" I'm talking about compressed air... not the bathroom, alright? Hrm... I guess I made the bad joke first.)

I did not do anything special angle-wise. When I used the can... er... the compressed air, I could see the dust fly out of there. After that, my temps went back to normal.

If that's what happens when you use compressed air, then we surely do not want to know what happens when you use the can! :D :D :D :D
