just noticed an inconsistency while i was talking with steve from pctorque. figured i would ask the question here and let everyone (hopefully justin) chime in.

specifically looking at the sager 5790 and different hard drive options.

    1) sagernotebooks.com doesn't have the 300mbit as an option, all their sata drives show 150.
    2) xoticpc.com has the 300mbit listed as the seagate momentus.
    3) discountlaptops.com has the 300mbit, but they don't list it as the seagate momentus.
    4) pctorque says: " PCTORQUE: The 300 is not offered with that model"

So what's the deal here? (i don't need 160gb for a laptop, i was only purchasing it for the speed increase)

do you mean SataII (300 MB/s)??

Theres no such thing as a Seagate 300mbits ..... the tag "Mbits" means Mega Bits.... which is for network bandwidth.

You probably confused many people, which is why you got not replies.

If you are referring to just SATA-II (300 MB/s) harddrives for notebooks:
    - it DOES NOT matter because the harddrives with SATA-II are backwards compatible with SATAI-150.
    - SATA-II (300MB/s) DOES NOT matter because the notebook harddrives (as well as most desktop drives) will not take advantage of that data rate... due to the limitations (mainly the 7200 rpm). Only the desktop SCSI and Raptor drives with 10,000 rpm can take advantage of that kind of band.

So it might seem like a nice option, but notebook HDD's will NOT fully take advantage of the SATA-II... so it does not matter to use that as a factor for purchasing a notebook.
