How about a thread for us? There are a lot of us here now and this could be a great thread to get info for new buyers and also the ones who already have one and are maybe having a problem. They could ask away in here. I think it would be a good idea anyone else?
-
Good idea since every good laptop has it's own dedicated thread.
-
i also think it would be good
-
Sure they have ones for the other Sager models.
-
Clevo 570 ru is the best laptop ever...
-
Let's just make this thread it, Get it going, get the title changed!
I love my 5791.
I'll start the lounge off with some tips for people:
1) GET LAPTOP LID TWEAKS. It's just two icons that enable and disable standby when you close the lid. Perfect for keeping downloads going or music playing without having the screen up.
2) GET TWEAK UI. This is how you can actually change what the other buttons (besides the app button) do. Here's how:
Under explorer > Command Keys, change the targets for Mail and WebHome, and you are set! Woot!
If you want to navigate to a web page (other than your default) when one the buttons is pressed, simply select run a custom program and type in:
"local address of program" web address
for instance
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" www.gmail.com
to get to gmail in firefox. (Use quotes)
I'll add more as i think of it. -
Will have to download those apps later
-
love my m570ru... however, for no reason whatsoever, my headphone jack has failed. Now, I most likely have to bring it in for service.
-
Got my vote on a dedicated thread
MAN ONE more week and I can ORDER!!! WOOOHOOO!!! :twitcy: I feel like a 3 grader taking his first hit of Adderall!!! Just hope that discount is still good till then for the 5791

What is the best cpu that our computer can take ? (x7800?)
-
It can take a x7800, but it way too expensive and even T7800 isn't offered as an option on many sites.
-
Know that is a very nice compilation i just use mine without any additional hardware, so what all of those gadgets do for the laptop, the cooler air means that the fans go of not so often ?
-
Has anyone experienced random shutdowns while gaming? This happens on my brand new machine. No OC or anything - I'd be shocked if it was a heat issue. I'm running Vista Ultimate with a 7950 GTX so it could be a DX9/10 thing.
-
-
I'm not getting reboots, just a complete power down. Where is this auto reboot option, though?
-
one thing u might want to look into..if u feel confident enough to open the notebbook and take off cooling system that is..
..try to take off the heatsinks from both CPU and GPU..and then check if manufacturer took of the plastic protector off the heatsinks..some people who had overheating issues found it to be the reason behind it.
..if u dont want to do it yourself, contact your reseller for hlp
g.luck and i hope it gets resolved soon! -
also make sure they are flat against the cpu. mine as well as a freind of mine needed to be reshaped to fit flat up against the cpu
-
That may very well be the issue as it occurred most recently during the 3dmark06 CPU test - although that could be coincidence as well. Before I consider doing any of this I'm going to try another set of video drivers. Also, I use Speedfan for temperature monitoring, but what's a program that will overlay the temperature in-game (a la FRAPS for FPS) so that I can monitor it up until the point the computer shuts down? I've still not nailed this down as a temperature issue, you see.
Thanks -

maybe somebody posted this already, but I haven't seen it until today. An all black version. looks nice too. back of the lid is also black. -
wow the all black is KILLER!!!!! that thing imo is sweet id love it in all black
-
-
Maybe this one can handle the Extreme processors.
Did you find any specs on this model?
There is nothing on the Clevo site about a full black model.
It does look nice. I like it better than the orange or white trimmed Clevos.
Oh well it does not look like Clevo made any improvements for this model.
Mouse Computer specs does not differ from Sagers. So I guess no Extreme processors yet.
Still like the black trim. -
Only saw it on that japanese site, other japanese sites had the usual orange trimmed ones. As far as specs and options, it's all seems the same as the current USA models.
-
bearz313 it is obviously that you don't know that this Clevo already has support for the X7800/X7900 processors. The problem lies in the fact that the resellers don't have them.

http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/prodinfo_2.asp?productid=41
I have downloaded and read the manuals and I can not find any references to the x7800 or x7900.
So it is obvious to me that Clevo does not officially support the x7800 or x7900.
I have found at least one reseller that does provide support for one of the extreme processors.
He made modifications to the cooling system to make it work properly.
So show me where you found information that Clevo officially supports the extreme processors.
I could have missed it.
Are you referring to this post...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=163825
I was hoping this newly found black model was the result of the above post. -
Yes, this laptop supports both extreme CPUs.
But, why would anyone want to pay 700-800$ on a CPU? -
We do it all the time.
Do you think Intel and AMD release processors in that price range or higher just to have them sit on the shelf. -
-
bearz313, I understand you can do that, but why?
It's not such a big difference in performance from a T7800 (running at 2.6 Ghz).
Anyway, I wasn't trying to say that you shouldn't buy them. I believe you may be able to request any CPU you want from a reseller. -
When the time comes to order my M57x RU I will buy the fastest processor supported by the manufacturer or what I can afford. I doubt the price for the top processor will top $600.
You never can tell.
I am still waiting for the new 256 bit video card for the M57x RU so the X7900 maybe down to $50.

Would you guys liked this thread renamed something like "Official NP5790/5791 owners lounge"? Just post what you want the thread title to be and I'll change it.
-
^^^ i think that would be perfect
-
bearz313 X7800 or X7900 is more like 800 I believe.
"I wouldn't buy them now, but in a few months those same processors may be under $300." -> Highly unlikely. The top CPUs and video cards never go down that much in price (50%). -
-
1 year is a long waiting period in ITland
especially since the discussion is whether to buy the top-of-the-line or not: in 1 year, you can buy something similar a lot cheaper ... sure
but, then it isn't top of the line anymore -
But, if you already have one with 2.2ghz, and a year from now you can just drop in an extreme chip ( or one of equivalent speed at that time ) for a couple of hundred. Why not? Beats spending another $2500 on a new laptop.
-
the Xtreme chps will never be that cheap
-
Today's Xtreme is tomorrow's average ( tomorrow being 6 months to a year ) -
Yeah, but today's extreme may get it's ass kicked by tomorrow's average.
-
The point is: if you want the BEST, you have to pay a lot.
Sure, in 1 year I can buy a CPU with similar power to the top of the line now, for much less. But that doesn't solve the problem
If you want the best, you pay.
If you don't want to pay, you don't get the best.
If I want the X7800/X7900 now, I'm sure I do NOT want something equally powerfull next year. Next year I'll want the Y7800/Y7900 (just making up names here), that is (1/2/3/4/5/...) times as fast.
If I want the X7800/X7900 in 1 year, I don't want the best: it'll be "outdated" by then. -
Well, I thought I was the only one who's headphones' jack failed. Got a USB card to fix that, and it's way better , the sound I mean.
X700/X800 won't do it, I'd rather sell the laptop and with a difference get the 9261, if I were that performance hungry.
As for the next best nVidia card, can't wait -
5791 owners....How load are the fans? what would you compare it to?
-
With a '69 BMW loud as a tank. Definitely irritating if the room you`re in is silent...
Hey zfactor, what other issues did you have with your Sager? ( I still have the headphone issue, but bypassed it with an USB sound card , for now...) -
i had a number of them.. some dont believe it but i can say i honestly did..
the bottom corners of the lcd are dark, keyboard esc key was sticking, they sent me another keyboard after about a week or two that one misses keystrokes.. they say i have to send it in to them ...for a keyboard?? c'mon.. i ended up buying a new one for 49$ screw mailing it in and paying 30$ shipping and waiting what 2 weeks.. no thanks i simply paid the 49$ and bought another one so thats one big issues in my mind..
my lid has a "bend" or crease in it and i wish i would have been homemore when i got it so i noticed it sooner i could have taken pics and had it replaced but they said i waited to long..
my system was shutting down while on battery power.. i realized one of the battery pins was barely touching.. i slowly and carefully bent it back and its fine now..
also since mine was bare bones.. the heat sink for the cpu did not sit flat. i had to flatten it out to sit flat on the cpu die.. i had crazy temps and after i did this its been fine.
imo i really do like this system but clevo's qc sucks bad.. i doubt id ever vuy another... especially bare bones. at least if it was pre configured it "may" have been tested though there were a number of people who had the plastic under the cpu heatsink left one and thier cpu's were over heating.. i mean thats something so stupid.. -
How long is battery life on these guys?
is there a way to play media without booting to the OS to save battery life? -
depends what im doing average regular use i get just over 2hours. gaming maybe an hour or less.
-
Zfactor where did you buy it from? was it a clevo reseller or a sager...and eleron911 could you just be a bit more specific I don't own a 69 BMW, or stood next to a tank...
-
I was being sarcastic. There are 2 fans : CPU which pretty much stays on, once it kicks in, you get used to it fast, and it's just above the regular noise mae by fans,so again, not a problem.
But when the GPU fan kick in, it`s like a reactor that is in the startup sequence...pretty nasty, I had to exit the library because the damn thing was too noisy for itIt is a DTR , but I must say, the fans are the worst part about this laptop...and sadly, they are factory standard,no other could be placed...
I am used to it and I do not hear the noise, unless it`s completely silent in the room, or if I really listen to the noise(sound, whatever)
But,the current 5791 is the only one that support the 8800M GTX, without the need of a mobo revision(excepting an error with standby, where the computer goes blank).
Needless to say, this beast has personality. My laptop came in the same day as a friend of mine, who got a Toshiba Qosmio 2.0 Ghz,2 g ram and X3100 ...and when mine started ruorring with the GPU fan,and booted twice as fast as his,he closed his laptop and made a sad face
The Sager 5791 is by far the most attractive and affordable DTR with great qualities and potential... -
It seems to me that both bluetooth and irda is installed properly on my 570RU, but nokia pc suite can't find my phone, not under irda and not under bluetooth. Other bluetooth devices also can't find the clevo...
The device manager doesn't report any problems.
Any suggestions on what the problem could be?
TIA,
a3aan
