I received around august a Sager 8250 with the 770m in it. The laptop worked great for a few weeks but then started to have a flickering and flashing screen. I contacted sager on the issue and RMA'd it to them and it was a loose cable connection. They fixed it promptly and sent it back to me and it has worked ever since for a little over a month. Since this week, however, the issue has come back and the screen is flickering again. Hooking it up to an external monitor shows nothing on the external screen leading me to believe it is the screen again. Moving the lid to different angles doesn't seem to fix it either. I have tried reinstall the drivers several times and using different versions and this also does not fix it. At this point you can imagine I am fairly frustrated as I have not found anyone else on here with this problem. If anyone can give me any advice on fixing this and doing so for good it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

The video cable connection behind the LCD tends to be fickle on many laptops; it's just the nature of the design and from pivoting the screen (it gets pulled on a lot). You will probably need to RMA it again, unless you are willing to remove the bezel and panel to reseat the cable.

Your best bet is to contact Sager about it first, though.

Thanks for the reply. I thought so it was the screen connection but moving the screen back and forth does not replicate the problem. I have been using it for 4 hours this morning and it has not flashed yet except for 5 seconds after start up. I am not very handy when it comes to laptops so I have no idea for other diagnoses. I emailed sager about the problem and I have an RMA awaiting shipping label. If anyone else wants to throw in their two cents of what they think it might be that would be great.

    Thanks again

Could be that the cable or LCD panel needs replaced altogether, then. A bad connection will usually yield the abnormality whenever you move the screen.

    You're welcome, and good luck!

Before you RMA it, see if you can make the problem happen consistantly. For example, do games cause it, or graphics benchmark programs? Is it a heat issue, or video drivers? Have you tried new drivers? It could be it only happens with something else. Like only when the sound is active, or wifi, or ...

Ajnindlo, I have thought about trying to recreate the problem and it seems like it does it just randomly. Games do not cause it nor benchmarks. I thought perhaps it was a video card issue maybe the card overheating but there are no artifacts on screen and the fan does not come on high except when playing a game, as it should. As for drivers, I have tried sever NVIDIA whql drivers and none alleviate the issue. I did get the upgraded 95% color gamut screen so as prostar states it could just be the screen panel. At this point I am just trying to see if I can get the problem to replicate easily so when Sager receives the laptop they can observe the problem themselves.

    Thanks again for the help

Did we ever figure out if this was the screen or the cable? Mine has started this behavior, and of course it has just passed out of warranty.

Does moving the screen make it worse/change? Most likely it is a loose cable.

The last post prior to yours was posted over a year ago, so it's unlikely you'll get a response or update from the OP. Like Meaker asked: do you see a discernible fluctuation with the image when you move the screen/lid back and forth? If so, it's almost certainly the cable that's the problem.
