which Windows CD did you use? its it a real or backup one?

Remember to set the BIOS for the "boot order"... making the CD/DVD drive be first.

i am using a windows XP SP 2 cd. its not a backup one, its suppose to install windows. i've done it before on another laptop

i set the CD/DVD drive first in the boot order sequence and it says it says windows setup failed to recognize my hard disk. in the bios though, it clearly says that i have a fujitsu hard drive

    thats strange....

did you disable ACPI options in the BIOS...

or enable IDE/ATA mode for the SATA drive?

    exactly.

If you have a USB Floppy Drive, get the SATA drivers on the Floppy, and hit F6 when XP setup starts.

    If you dont have one....

You will need to slipstream (using nLite) a Windows XP CD with the SATA drivers for your Sager 2090.

Then the new slipstreamed CD will boot and recognize your SATA HDD.

in the BIOS? is that the screen that i get to when i hit f2? i dont see any of those options. perhaps you're talking about AHCI Configuration. i have that enabled. everything except the boot sequence is default/factory settings

i googled slipstream and nLite and have installed the program. but you also mentioned that i need to install the SATA drivers for my sager as well. how can i do this?

thanks again so far :) your help is greatly appreciated

try to disable and enable the AHCI first in the BIOS.

Then if you need to, make a slipstream Windows CD.

nLite is probably the easiest program to make slipstream Windows CD's for specific systems that require particular drivers. They have the best guides on their site for everyone.

the cd that came with my computer is called "Device Drivers & Utilities + User's Manual". is this at any time used before windows is actually installed?

edit1: when will i use this cd? if ever

edit2: i got my computer to work!!! i disabled AHCI configuration and lo and behold my hard disk is recognized.

thank you so much for helping me. +rep :)
