Hello everyone, its been around 1-2 years since i've had my sager NP8170 and it has been running like a dream. However this current month i started noticing the gpu (AMD Mobility Radeon HD 6990M) runs quite hot when gaming, around 100* C which is quite a jump from what it is use to running under stress. I am assuming i need to reseat my gpu, but is there any others options i can do to have to it run cooler? i wouldn't mind taking a performance dive for a cooler experience considering how greatly it plays anything. Thanks for the help :)

Hey, grab a can of compressed air and spray the dust off the vents and fans. If you want, you can take of the fans and water clean them too.

Hope that helps... And glad your 6990M didnt burn and die like mine. :(

    Edit: here's a bit of a guide ( http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4020)

If you already have done so before, then maybe your card needs repasting?

    ^^spot on.

if you have never cleaned the dust out then theres your problem. as its been 1-2 years your lucky its not shutting down to protect it as its best to clean out vents and fans with compressed air every few months.

Since it's so easy I would take the cover off and take the heatsinks out completely, give them a thorough clean. Get some IC diamond and do a nice repaste and you should be good to go.

I tend to open up mine and tweak it enough for it not to need planning ^-^.
