I have a sager 5793 which i boght three years ago. Now after a travel, the hinges were broken. I wonder if there is any tutorial showing me how to replace them.

Called sager help, I was told it is easy to replace. So does the online forum. I opened the screen, but i found it isn't easy to adjust the hinge to a certain angle.

BEing afraid of breaking my new hinges, I stoped. I wonder if anyone could hlep me?

    Thanks a million,

No, you didn't miss anything. Terrible service manual. I had to do this a year or so ago. It's not too hard provided you already have the hinges in hand because you can see where the screws are mounting to the case (from bottom of the laptop).

I did mine without actually removing the LCD connections from the motherboard to the LCD and was very careful not to stress the cables as I was in a hurry but that made it more difficult.

Gonna be in and out all day, but post away. I did it in a very ham-handed way due to time constraints. As I recall I was using books to hold everything up so I wouldn't stress anything important. I actually took pictures along the way so I could make my way back if I got in trouble, but I've long since erased them.

I recall that I removed the front bezel to start so I could see how the hinges connected to the side of the LCD. Then I unscrewed the lcd/hinges from the back bezel so the LCD was loose between the two bezels.

The hinge is the part I cannot recall exactly. I know that the hinge has a stalk that goes down through the metal frame in the laptop base and I think there was only one screw (per hinge) that you needed to unscrew from the bottom. I think there may have been one or two screws you do from the top (or maybe one screw and the other hole sits on a peg or something?).

Then you just pull the hinge out and drop in the new one and reattach the screws and snap the bezel back together.

I do remember being puzzled at something...I just cannot recall. Just thinking afterward, "that was dumb."

Just remember, it could be worse--you could be replacing a harddrie in an Inspiron n1040. I did that this week--it is the only harddrive in existence that you need to remove the mainboard to replace the harddrive! It took me two hours to replace a harddrive!
