Hi I bought a sager laptop. And was wondering how much I could sell the base model with6990m for I think its a no8170. It's 15 in. I spilled liquid on the keyboard. It's clean but won't boot. CPU hd gpu and screen are mint. Any estimates as to pricing ?

    NP8150 is the 15" with a 6990m.

Well I don't quite think that you can sell the laptop. You could probably sell the parts though. Maybe go through the marketplace and get an idea from the posts there?

Thanks. I checked eBay and the 6990m sells for like 400.

Do you know that the parts work?

That could make it rather difficult to sell the parts individually.

Also know how to disassemble and properly package the parts in antistatic bags, if you want to be careful.

    Soup, eh?

definitely figure out for sure which parts work and which ones don't. Since you spilled liquid I'm guessing some part shorted out. I've been in the same boat as you before actually (pretty sure I shorted a graphics card after I spilled water on it).

I'll never put a computer near any liquid ever again.

sorry bro. I feel for ya, but before you sell anything, you definitely should make sure it works. Otherwise I'm rather certain you can get upwards of 400 USD for the 6990m. The screen is most likely fine and you can likely get around 70-80 for it. I'm also guessing your HD is working fine and you can get some money for that (depending on capacity and hybrid-ness or ssd-ness of course).

did you every try replacing the CMOS battery? I'd disassemble the whole bottom chassis, clean everything up, make sure the parts are all dry, then reassemble it to see if you can get it to work. From the spill, the parts i'd imagine to be bad would be the keyboard, trackpad, and possibly the motherboard. That is, if you're interested in trying to get it to work. You have no way of knowing of which parts are shot though.

there are a few 6990M's for sale here in the marketplace, check out those threads for pricing. I'd suggest making a Price Check thread in the appropriate section of the NBR marketplace. Make sure to post up all the specs of the laptop.

Do as hizzaah said, good advice there.

If you end up selling it for parts, I would be interested in the barebones (no GPU, CPU, HDD, ram)

A computer that new would be worth getting it checked out to see if it can be fixed. It's probably just one part thats causing it. Take it to a local repair shop and see if they can get you a free estimate for repair.

Replacing keyboards on sager laptops is a fairly easy operation. If memory serves me, you can probably pick up a spare keyboard for like $70. Get the part number and check ebay. Then search the internet for instructions on how to replace.

I've spilled water on a sager laptop before, and the keyboard shorted out... was a quick replace.
