I'm considering buying a Segar np2090, but I've been out of the computer loop ever since buying my desktop PC a while ago. Is now a good time to buy or are there new segar notebooks or hardware upgrades coming within the next month or so?

I guess it's never a good time to buy since technology changes so rapidly, but I just wanted to check if there will be new additions or price drops expected in the near future and if I should wait for those until I buy.

Also, should there be any major issues with installing Ubuntu 7.10 64bit on these notebooks?

I just purchased a Sager NP2090 which should arrive this week. My last PC was a Dell Dimension 4100 - P III that I am typing on now. I played the waiting game as well but when I decided to go mobile and found the technology was up to par as far as notebooks go I bit the bullet. There will always be something better ! You just have to be happy with your purchase and what you will run on it for a while. Heck...I run Flight Simulator 2004 on my P III machine with pulled back sliders  but it runs!!! Boy I can't wait for my 2090 :D

The pricing is always going down little by little. It's always a matter of when you need/want the laptop.

Yeah, I agree. I know pricing is always going to drop and that new things are always coming out, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything coming out within the next couple weeks that would totally shift the market or anything. =) I'm in no rush to buy.

Yeah, I just saw that it'll be released sometime in November maybe? Will that change pricing on the 15.4" ones or just the 17"?

It doesn't sound like something huge is coming out soon, so I guess I'll probably go ahead with the purchase =)

Really it comes down to need/desire. Prices will almost always go down, sales will come and go, and technology will always improve.

If you can hold out for a few months, it may go down, but then a new set of questions about the then current tech, and holding out a bit longer. Im now at the point where I must make a decision. ;P

Ive been doing ALOT of research and am ready to just purchase the 2090 myself. The price is good and the stats on it are great. The only thing that I find interesting is the Sager website sells for equal to sometimes less then resellers, who dont offer anything that Sager doesnt, or sometimes less.

Unless you plan on holding out until Q2 of 2008 you would not lose anything by ordering now. Intel is not going to release their next generation mobile platform, Montevina, until Q2 2008.

Of course the graphics cards front is another realm entirely . . . you might want to wait until the end of November if possible (only another month basically) to see what comes out of the rumors of new Nvidia graphics cards. The cards coming out are only going to be for desktops I believe but you'll at least be able to see the performance difference between the old generation and the new.
