    alright, my mic has been working since i got my computer until today. i logged onto ventrilo to try and talk and it didnt work. some settings must have gotten screwed up or something. how do i make the build in mic work?

    and its not vent. cause i went into the voice recording app in vista and tried to record something and it wouldnt play back

    I had the same problem that you're having xmatty89. Now I'm using XP pro, I never have, and never will use vista, but this is what I did. Hopefully it will work for you too...

    I went control pannel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio
    From that page there is a small drop down menu that says "sound recoring". I selected "realtek HD audio input" as the default device and everything works just fine now.

    That did it for me, I hope it works for you too man, good luck! :)

    What I do when this happens is uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers...sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn`t.

    how do i figure out what audio driver i'm using? im also using an external sound card. i dont know if that makes a difference thow.

    Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Sounds and video devices > Whatever sound hardware you're using > Driver > Driver details.
