Trying to recover the system bios on a sager np8170. When I plug it in I have both amber and green lights on the edge are solid.(power and battery) The power button light, and ST radio light come on for a few seconds and go off.

I'm thinking a new bios chip is the answer?

Perhaps, but it can also be a defective video card, memory bank or even the cpu. Try a minimal boot first, so without gpu, hdds, wifi and a single memory bank.

Failing that, the bios chip should be labelled "U25" on the board and marked "*25*32*" on the eeprom itself. The '25' because it's an SPI type and '32' since that's its size in Mbit (bios is 4MB -> x 8 = 32Mbit). Would've made an image with a nice arrow, but the available photos of the P170HM motherboard are too low-res to make out the markings.
