Hey guys, this is my 1st thread, hopefully it catches some attention because I'm stuck!
Just ordered a sager np8265 from xoticpc, and was super stoked to open it up and play with it! Well, I opened it, turned it on, went to the BIOS and inserted my windows 8 disk. Then exited the BIOS and it started to start. Well, I got a "PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable" warning sign. It begins then tells me to reboot, or insert my boot media and press any button. I pressed "any" button a couple times, and got the same issue. So I restarted it, and now it's in a constant boot loop (I think that's what it's called.) It keeps trying its hardest to start up, the lights come on, then shut off. Come on, then shut off. Repeating multiple times. So now it wont start!
Any help would be amazingly appreciated!

So it occasionally gets past the boot loop and gets me into the BIOS, at which point, it freezes. And a restart is once again required. And.... the boot loop..

Sounds like you have to change the boot order which you can do in the BIOS.
"PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable" means its trying to boot of the ethernet port.

Right, of which I've been trying to get into, but the past 2 times it allowed me into the BIOS, (other than turning on and off again) it froze. Any idea how to get it to just turn on and stay on?

I would try getting in with a single stick of ram, it's usually hardware related error if it can't get into the bios properly.

If you are not happy opening the machine it needs to go back.

It may be a hardware issue as Meaker mentioned. It would have been fully tested before leaving Sager though, thats why its set to boot off a network as thats how they test computers without an OS installed. Occasionally something could have come lose during transit.

Possibly a bad Windows disc? Make an .iso copy on another computer and try that, or another version of Windows if you have one to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for the insight. I'm about to try removing stick of RAM see if that does anything. :(

So I just removed the stick from RAM 2, and the computer now turns on (at least stays on as far i can can tell) The fans run and the keyboard, power and indicator lights stay on, but there is no display on the screen.

As a follow up, everything is going good now. I called xoticpc and Tanner was the man! He taught me about "clearing the static electricity"? by unplugging the battery and power cord and holding the power button down for 30 seconds. He also suggested removing and fiddling with the RAM configuration and it all seems to be working perfectly now! Thanks for your input!

Maybe they had moved in transit and needed seating properly. Glad it's sorted.

What Tanner had you do was refresh the EC chip; sometimes the current that remains in the chip causes oddities, but a release of that current and starting the system back up can help. Glad to hear that it's working now!

Hi, I just got my np8265 today. Sadly, I also have same problem as you have. I can't go to the windows because the system keep telling me, "Media test failure, check cable." I inserted the cable, then the new problem shows up, "no boot filename received". Can you please show the details to fix it?

Have you checked your boot order in the bios?

Yes, but I have no clue where to start it.
    There are
    Boot option # 1[P3: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SN-208DB]
    Boot option #2 [HGST HTE541010A9E680,
    Boot option #3 [Realtek PXE B05 D00]

    CD/DVD ROM DRIVE BBS PRIORITIES
    HARD DRIVE BBS PRIORITIES
    NETWORK DEVICE BBS PRIORITIES

    UEFI SETTING

I got 3 cds, which is windows 8, windows 7, and cyberlink media. Should I insert any cd? Thanks!

If you ordered a system with windows installed you need to go to hard drive BBS protities and make sure the hard drive with windows on it is first. Next move it to boot option #1.

If you ordered a system without an OS you will need to put in a disc for the one you want to install and the way the order is it should try to boot from the disk (look out for any prompts telling you to press a key to boot from the disc).

I'm really confused now. I've tried every disc and they all appear "no boot filename received" Does that mean I have to go download OS online and burn it in a disc or copy to a disc I want to install? And the guidebook told me to do RAID setup procedure. Is it necessary to complete RAID setup?

If you are in UEFI mode you need to make sure you have a UEFI compatible disc.
