Me? I prefer Matte (it doesn't look 'dull!', it's sharp!) but I can't justify the extra cash so I configure an m860tu with glossy... -
Viewing angles on the glossy screen are really poor, in my opinion. But if you stay in front of the laptop, there's won't be any problem

would anyone prefer matte over glossy? well, i ordered a matte one from PCMW and I'm thinking that glossy is more appealing to the eyes of people right? Or am I wrong in assuming that? I want to get the opinion of NBR people so that I can inform PCMW to change the screen as soon as possible if its the case. Please help. Thanks.
-
Appealing... yes of course. As people said, its reflectiveness under sunlight or any bright light could really disturb you from doing whatever you're doing as it will look like a mirror.
But I've been told by Justin that the NP8660 glossy screen is not that glossy as he can work under it in office environment. But I recommend you to see it yourself. -

ahh. can anyone post a screenshot of the glossy and matte screens? and how the text size looks like with their respective native resolution?
-
Here's an image for the viewing angle, at native resolution, for text, that will be part of my full review. (I don't know if I can finish it for Christmas, exams are harder than what I expected)

I have a matte screen on my NP5793, and it looks great. It is much better looking than my HP matte screen. It actually has some gloss to it but doesn't suffer nearly as much from glare. I personaly think screen resolution is more important than screen finish. I watched a couple of Blu-rays on my matte screen and they look great.

thanks. at least that makes me comfortable with my upcoming m860tu, lol

I can look at my screen from a 180 degree angle, and all text is still completely clear and sharp.
I don't understand why some have such worse viewing angles than mine. -

kevin jack, do you think glossy is better than matte?
-
I have the Matte 1920 x 1200 and love it. In particular for watching Blu-Ray and playing games looks amazing. Matte works better in lighted environments. The glossy tends to have better contrast / blacks in low light conditions, but then doesn't have the same resolution.
You have to think what's important to you. -
I've never had any experience with a matte screen, but I will rank this notebook's screen as slightly above average. I've owned three notebooks in the last three years (Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527, Dell Vostro 1500, and now M860TU), and this notebook has by far the best screen of the three, but that is balanced by the fact that the Toshi and Dell had absolutely horrid screen.
The glossy WSXGA+ looks superb while I'm playing a game, looking at pictures or watching a movie, but during internet browsing or typing, when there's a majority of white background, the screen's flaws become apparent.
It's not by any means a bad screen, as I've obviously had much worse, but I've seen much better on some Sony and Toshiba models.
Piggy-backing what UKBananas said, the desired resolution should make up the majority of your decision. WUXGA on a 15.4 inch screen is too much for some people's eyes. -

how will i know that the type of screen is "for" me?
