i already know iam getting a sager. but now iam torn between these two models! like the slightly more portability aspects of the 15inch, but i like the duel drive of the 17inch. main uses for the laptop would be gaming, photoshoping, video editing, watching anime, lan parties, and school stuff. i have an lenovo x200t for bringing to school daily, but it cant do anything from the above except watching anime, school work, and light photoshopping!

    what do you guys think?

it sounds like your lenovo satisfies all the portable needs for you, might as well grab the 8760 and get the bigger screen, +1 HDD.

W870CU (8760).. RAID 0 is your friend when it comes to large files and video/photo editing.

I had both for review at the same time and I'd have to say if you don't need the portability, get the NP8760. Its #1 advantage in my book over the NP8690 is the second hard drive bay. Use a small SSD as your Windows drive and a big HDD for all your files/backups (just an idea). That 17.3-inch screen was also great; it was the same quality panel as the NP8690's 15.6-inch but the larger size made it more comfortable to work on.

Other than that, the machines sans the hard drives will perform identically and will have the same battery life. The NP8690 is a bit quieter; the NP8760 has a nicer touchpad. I would say both machines are equally (un)portable.

In the end though, you can't go wrong with either machine if they fit your bill.

Yeah, the SSD boot drive + Spin drive for storage is a wonderful idea. I'd have gone with the 8760 if I had the extra cash. From just looking at the dimensions, it's really not *that* much less portable than the 8690.

Charles, you say the 8760 has a nicer touchpad. I didn't know they used different touchpads. What is the difference why do you call one nicer?

The surfaces were the same if I remember correctly, but the NP8760's buttons had a better feel and were quieter. It was one of the better touchpads I used recently.

8760 is the way to go,

The 17 inch screen is really nice. If you worried about size of the thing the 8760 chassis is only slightly larger than the 8690.

I was in the same boat before on deciding between the two and i ended up getting the 8760 and i love the thing
