I was having bsod errors weeks ago, but have gotten rid of them for quite a while now. But now when I play almost any game, I randomly glitch out, freeze, get not responding errors and its difficult to play games. This was my latest error. Popped up twice, playing metro 2033. this one was after only 5 mins. Can someone please help me out ?

It's looking like a video driver failure if it's only happening in game, were driver reinstallations part of your BSOD fix?

Have you ran WhoCrashed to see if it gives you any different information?

Yes. I haven't had a blue screen since 5/16. This i is just a windows error box that comes up. The game will be playing, freeze, but i can still alt tab to a black screen. then the box comes up.

which graphics driver have you got loaded?
maybe roll back to the last known good driver you used.
what sort of gpu/cpu temperatures are you getting and when was the last time you cleaned the vents and fans out with compressed air.

Yeah I honestly can't think of anything but a driver conflict. Might have to resort to another video driver install but not sure if that will create a whirlwind effect causing BSOD again.

I know it's not the go to solution here on these threads but it might be something where it's not worth the hassle of figuring out what is causing it and just start fresh with a clean install of Windows. Not very common to see these drivers issues with Nvidia cards.

what about just the "repair" feature ? would that be good ? or clean install ?

You could try a repair and then reload the drivers but I don't think it'll fix the issue. I'm of the school of thought I'd rather back up my data, nuke the drive, reinstall, and put everything back the way it was rather than spend countless hours troubleshooting and then possibly have the issue be unfixable by anything but a reinstall anyways. It's likely that it can be fixed with troubleshooting, but it's up to you if it's worth the time.

in the long run as the guys mentioned a clean install could well be the best option. a windows repair first wont hurt but if it is a graphics driver then a repair of windows wont help much but always worth a try before a total clean install.
if its been happening for ages it could well be a driver conflict with another driver loaded and no matter how many times you load graphics drivers you could still have a conflict.
once you start going bald after pulling your hair out so much cut ya losses and start afresh.

first get all the important stuff off the lappy onto an external hard drive.
then make sure you have original OS disc with licence key and the driver cd that you should of got from your supplier with the lappy.

hope you get it sorted soon.

As I mentioned it's pretty rare for these issues to crop up. It's just that drivers sometimes compete for the same resources and cause these errors when there are conflicts. With a reinstall it's very doubtful that you'll have to deal with this again unless there is some off the wall software that is causing the driver issues and you install the same again.

Yeah... it's one of those "to each their own" situations, I think. NVidia has a history of producing more stable hardware and software, but it's really too bad you've had so many problems with the card.

Personally, I think just about anything is fixable, but finding the fix is just not always worth the time and effort (unless you're a perfectionist in pursuit of knowledge).

i had problems after my first nvidia update from stock driver. it caused quite a lot of problems.
reloading driver didnt work at first and there was always something that didnt load correctly in nvidia control panel.
finally had to do a system restore and then load the driver in safe mode and it worked.

forgot to ask this earlier but have you tried the manual safe mode install. walkthrough in sig below.

Thanks for all the info guys. I have not done a safe mode install yet, never really thought about that or saw the need to. I've always done it the OS

I usually do it with a normal boot as well which works fine when all goes as it should. But once you run into issues the Safe mode can make a difference.

Yeah Safe Mode is the poor man's go to guy for troubleshooting. Hopefully that resolves it for you. :)
