Hey! Im gettin a sager np9170 an i have a few questions.
1. should i get an SSD? And if so should i get an SSD and HDD? (keep in mind that i live in norway and the prices are REALLY high here)
2. Does anyone know if there are cheap resellers close to norway? And if there are some, should i buy from them or from norway? (i really dont need a intel 2720 processor, but the reseller in norway dont have the option to get the 2610 intel)
3. Heard that the sager got pretty high temps, is this true?
4. Are the fan noises really THAT loud as people say that they are?
5 is the new AMD graphic card (AMD radeon HD 7970m) worth getting. I play alot of fps so i really want it, but i have had some bad experiences with the AMD drivers in the past (but i think they are much better now though)
I play games like. Bf3, witcher 2, dragon age, mass effect, guild wars 2 when it releases
All replies are very appreciated![]()

I've come to answer all your questions, no matter if you want me or not!
1. Get an SSD! Wanna have fast loading when playing games? You need an SSD! If prices in Norway are high, try ordering from other countries in the EU to avoid VAT.
2. I reccomend the german resellers. MySN or NEXOC! Reason: speedy delivery and competent service! Also - get a Core i7 3610QM processor! Dont get the 2000 series, they are old Sandy Bridge. The 3000 series are Ivy Bridge and are newer. Price = the same as the old ones, but are faster.
3. Its not true. The Sager 9170 is in fact a Clevo P170EM and this has the BEST cooling for a 17.3" laptop. Everybody will confirm it (owners will confirm it, speculants will speculate).
4. No, fan noise is NOT LOUDER THAN ANY OTHER MEDIUM-SIZED LAPTOP! In fact, it might be even quieter than some branded laptops like HP or Lenovo.
5. TOTALLY! Get the AMD 7970m if you want to live! (seriously, this is the best video card for the price in the whole WORLD). AMD's drivers are good, Ive not had a single problem with them (using AMD 6990m on my laptop)
Man....this is the best laptop for the games you've listed. -
Thanks man
but can i buy the laptop with HDD from Norway then get a ssd from seperately another country, then put it on my laptop, or do i have to get the SSD with my laptop when i order it?
-
I'd vote yes on the SSD, really speeds up the computer loading times. I don't think I could ever go back to using a standard HDD only.
If you are on a budget you can get one of those hybrid drives if you need the space, they work pretty well.
If you want to install your OS and have some room for files I'd suggest a 120GB SSD at a minimum. I use a 120GB SSD for my OS and a few games, then a larger secondary drive for everything else.
Another option if you want to save money and already have a standard HDD is to buy a smaller SSD (I think the max is 60gb) and use the Intel SRT. -
When I got my P150HM last year, I got it with a HDD 320GB and bought SSD later on. Right now, Im using the SSD as my OS drive and moved the HDD to my second slot for torrents. I ended up never wanting to replace the HDD for a bigger one, since I have an external 2TB drive for years now and its using USB 3.0
So, you have a ton of options
A: Get an SSD right away
B: Get only a HDD right away
C: Get a hybrid drive right away (slower than SSD, faster than HDD)
D: Get both SSD and HDD right away
E: Get a HDD + mSATA SSD cache drive (I dont recommend this)

1. If you can, Yes!! They're really faster when compared to a HDD. I just bought my NP9170. Got it with a 750Gb HDD, going to buy a SSD as soon as I can!!
2. If you reseller just offer you the Intel 2000 series (2nd generation Sandy Bridge Cores) you might want to look somewhere else. The 3rd generation Ivy Bridge cores are out, they go for the same price, and have a better performance. Look for the 3xxx (3610QM, 3620QM, etc)
Here you can see a list of CLEVO resellers in Europe http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/652403-clevo-resellers-european-union-v1.html
3. Still don't have mine, but I think those babys have a good cooling system (9170 better than 9150)
4. Not sure, but I don't think so.
5. the HD 7970m is the best mobile GPU you can get right now if your concern is gaming. If you can wait some months, you can see how the GTX680m will perform, but keeping in mind that probably it wont be too much more powerfull, and will probably be more expensive.
Hope that helps
EDIT: You can also look here for other resellers outside Europe that might ship to your country.

hell yeah on the SSD and 7970!! can't go wrong!!!
not sure about the other points since i don't have the 9170 yet.
btw anybody from SE asia? and have experience buying sager or clevo from a trusted reseller in SE asia? thx -
i think i'm going to use this thread to ask a few things.
I'm from Portugal and i'm going to buy from Mysn.
1 - Is it worth to pay for the 3720QM over the 3610QM, i would say 75% gaming, 25% work (i'm a programmer).
2 - Is there any place i can buy just the Keyboard for it with portuguese layout?
3 - I talked to someone from Mysn and they told me their tim is almost the same as artic/ ic diamond, can anyone confirm it? from what i saw in a review the temps were not bad.
4 - I cannot decide about the display.
- The matte is Chi Mei N173HGE-L11 (CMO1720), Full HD, LED
- The Glossy one is hannstar hsd173puw1.
I have read very good things about the 2 of them. Nowdays i have a N53SV with a glossy panel and i won't regret, only when i'm at my dad's house i can't see a god damn thing, but that's once month.
The only game i play is BF3, and im waiting for diablo 3.
The laptop i'm going to buy is Schenker P702 or "clevo P170em". -
For actually working on the screen I would recommend Matte any day over Gloss, almost no matter what Gamut. Watching Videos or secondary screen etc is another story. -

Gonna disagree a bit here, the 3720QM is the best bang for your buck CPU. While its not going to make a huge difference it also isnt a huge price jump. If within your budget go for it. But any thing above that like the 3820QM then you're getting diminishing returns on your price/performance.
-
I would suggest holding one self to the 3610 unless you surely can use faster clocks at what the 3720 indeed seems very legit -
Sorry guys i miswrote it they sell the intel 3720 not the 2720 xD, but my problem is that they dont sell the 3610, which i can save alot by byung and it is almost as good as the 3720
-
-
Glossy stock anytime over the matte stock. Still another story when you order a Gamut as the matte might make the colours seem better as the glossy might make your eyes explode -
-
-
-
guys, two other questions, i thought i was gonna buy np9170, but np9150 doesnt look that small, and im afraid np9170 is gonna get too big xD, and what do you guys prefer glossy or matte screen? i dont go outside with my laptop, so maybe glossy?
-
if you go outside you need matte. otherwise you'll get massive reflections. (glossy is easier to clean though)
-
good luck!
Think of it this way.
NP9150 = better screen options, smaller, rubberized
NP9170 = bigger screen, larger, slightly better cooling, brushed aluminium
and yes, glossy anytime! It's really pretty -
Is it worth gettig the 90% ntsc glossy screen? It costs About 240 USD to upgrade from 60% to 90%
-
I would say yes, but money isn't a problem for me. At least not that kind of money.
Do you like vivid colours? ......................... If yes, consider the following;
If you are going to be using a external screen there is no need to pay so much cash for something as small as a screen update as you'll never look at it.
Now back again, it's going to be insanely beautiful so do keep in mind you are using your money for the greater good of your visual integrityweee hehehe

Sorry for asking so many questions xD Im getting a ssd and hdd, and im gonna have my OS on the SSD do i have to tell the resellers to download the OS on the SSD or should i get the OS as a disc? And does it matter which order the SSD and HDD in the configuration (if you understand what i mean)
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
If you put the SSD in the primary bay option then they'll do it automatically. Also if you added Windows to your build the disc will be included.
-
and btw, better off asking questions instead of making the mistake of your lifetime ^^
If you can you would be better off having the reseller install the OS on the SSD (as your main drive) and then getting it as a disk too. The HDD should be your secondary drive.
So yeah I think it makes a difference(not sure in the configuration thought.. do you mean like picking the HDD first then the SSD as the second drive? don't do that
)
EDIT: Aw man... Hutsady was faster than me -
In the config it says drive 1 and drive 2 not primary and secondary drive, but i guess drive 1 means primary drive? Just wanna make sure xD
-
Some people want the SSD as the secondary drive, so when ordered with the standard HDD as the primary drive they will likely assume you wish for the SSD to be the data drive and install the OS on the HDD instead.
Please make sure when you order, whomever you are going through, that you have the SSD as the first hard drive on the configuration page.
If you plan on installing the OS yourself though, it really won't matter which drive is in which bay on your configuration listing as you have your own choice on what drive you want to install the OS on.
