What is the difference? What are the advantages from going through xoticpc or through Sager directly?(thats what sagernotebook.com is right)?

Why buy from a resller and not Sager directly?

When you order from say Xoticpc or Powernotebooks, do you deal with them for customer service questions or call sager? Or can you call both? And when/if you need to ship your system to them, is it to Sager or to your reseller?

like the other threads have pointed out.

when you purchase through a Sager reseller like XoticPC or Powernotebooks, you will deal with them for all customer service and sales... even technical service. So all aspects of the system, unless if its hardware related.

Then the resellers will notify Sager to help get you a replacement part or RMA service.

    So....
Reseller = service/support for the notebook and with their own warranty on top of the Sager's.
Sager = handles hardware replacement with their standard warranty.

That may technically be true, but that's not always the case. When I contacted Xotic PC about a problem with my keyboard (using their online support system which generated a ticket and everything)... I got a response that said to contact technical support at an 800 number and my ticket was closed

To my surprise the guy on the other line said "SAGER". Just to be sure I asked if this was Xotic PC support for Sager, but he said this was Sager support :D

I ended getting an RMA from Sager directly, which leaves me thinking... what's the point of having an online system that generates a support ticket if the response is simply to contact Sager. Also, what's the point of Xotic PC technical support if they are just going to refer you to Sager?

Maybe the problem was too complex or they didn't have enough information to help you there. Also consider that their price is lower that Sager so if they really had full qualified technical support team (and provided lifetime support), the price would be at least a bit higher.

As I understand it, Sager is willing to price match its resellers, however, Xoticpc and powernotebooks still offers the extra 2 years of labor warranty on top of the standard Sagernotebooks warranty.

its the lifetime technical support for the notebooks that Sager cannot guarantee themselves.

I had to deal with Sager directly when I brought up the sleep mode recovery issue to XoticPC.

i bought direct from sager... in the future idk i may go with xoticpc, but i think sager is just great too - they always answer the phone, and the people you talk to are actually knowledgeable and helpful.

they also get back to emails REALLY fast like under an hour usually.

i wish there website was better tho, takes forever to dl drivers.

The point of having XoticPC (or any other reseller) provide basic technical support is that they essentially act as an outsource for Sager for a lot of the small stuff that many buyers end up calling in about (trust me, I've heard of a few really silly service calls - not, of course, from any NBR members! :D), thereby allowing Sager to focus on the more difficult stuff, which is in part why the poster who mentioned that he always gets quick service from Sager is able to get such quick service - since there aren't a lot of people calling Sager with questions such as basic how-tos on working with the OS (the seller, not Microsoft, is responsible for providing technical support regarding _Windows).

It's a useful business model (although it has its detractors), and helps to keep the overall cost of Sager systems down.
