my recent attempt has shown that installing G-sync screen from zm-g models will make G-sync to be non-working on the new dm-g model, more so on, the driver will not install without modification. since the machine changes it's Hardware ID after screen replacement. this was also confirmed by Clevo technician.
the sreen that has support in the system is lp173wf4 spf1.
lp173wf4 spd1will not have G-sync option on these machines, be aware!
It's the same panel, the only difference being the clock timings in each's edid; 75 Hz for the SPD1 and, curiously enough, 60 Hz for the SPF1. Both are gsync 'approved' however, but one of them was only white-listed in a later vbios version. Remember that gsync is a ploy by Nvidia to milk not only customers, but also manufacturers; those of the mxms, laptops and panels alike. They all have to pay for something that AMD supplies for free

Anyway ... either flash a newer vbios (if available) or flash the SPF1 edid. It's the 'LGD0469.bin' included in the
edid tools image and, separately, in the
v11 edid archive.
Try installing Nvidia's own Linux driver. Sometimes the stock nouveau cannot enumerate the buses.
Other than that; the tools are very old and no longer being updated. It is possible they really can no longer communicate with the Intel PCH. If so, then you might use an earlier generation platform in order to flash the edid. It has to be a non-Optimus or switchable system though.
Yes; flashing directly to the eeprom. Fairly similar to flashing a (v)bios, except these chip are less than half the size (TSSOP8 0.5 or 0.65mm pitch). Not easy, to be sure, but it
is doable when you have a hot air gun. Alternative is to solder voltage, ground, clock and data wires from the programmer to the dedicated soldering pads on the lcd's pcb. This too can work, but is risky if you don't know the exact eeprom you're writing to. Mind that this chip contains more than just the edid:
The problem when using incorrect parameters for the programmer is that it'll chance to corrupt the non-edid bits (a 'read' being interpreted as 'write'). This is pretty much unfix-able unless you have a spare screen to fetch a good copy from. With a '
desolder -> read -> program -> resolder' there's no such risk, but resoldering it a bit of hit-and-miss unless you have eagle eyes, a good magnifier or microscope.
Hmm ... you might also
intercept the edid signal before it reaches the panel and substitute your own, the approved SPF1 in this instance. The display itself couldn't care less, the existing refresh rates and resolutions just indicating a few of the standard possibilities, provided it can handle the increased pixel clock.
A fourth option; without Optimus (Intel HD driver) standing in the way it may be possible to edit the edid copy in the registry and then make those keys read-only. Would only help as long as Nvidia's driver won't poll the panel directly, of course.
Yes, Optimus will never work. But you're using a dGPU-only system, right? So there's no chance that Optimus is active, even by accident.
Regarding the write-protect, someone just happened to
post part of a panel's specification sheet yesterday that actually labeled one of the eDP connector's pins as 'eeprom write-protect', instead of the usual 'NC' or 'Factory only':
Very kind of Panasonic, to be sure. Anyway, so for
this panel all you have to do is short #1 to a ground and you're good to flash.
Of course, that may hold for all similar Panasonics, but that's not to say the AUOs, LGs and Samsungs use the same pin for that purpose or even have that option left exposed at all after it came off the production line.
It's a BIOS key that changes the EDID for the panel. The panels are all 60Hz and gsync can be used at 60Hz. SOME OEMs will change this to 75Hz because the panels generally can all do above 75Hz, so it's a "free" benefit. But 75Hz is not required, never will be required, is not the base refresh rate, and never will be the base refresh rate of those panels.
i did not say 75hz is required for Gsync!. i said 75hz is only available with Gsync(was i wrong?) all i was trying to say is that the he must have "problem" elsewhere than the EDID. and you just confirmed that.
The ASUS models that launched using it before laptop gsync is a thing... anybody who bought non-gsync models with the same panel from an oem that let people use 75Hz... I told you all that is needed is a bios that updates the edid to 75Hz default
I said that because i tried my system with a NON-GSync BIOS and i could run the Gsync Panel @ 75Hz no problem. (FHD of course, heck i even pushed mine to 105hz)
just installed a "75hz" panel in my gt72vr machine which has a different "75hz" panel certified for Gsync and only 60hz refresh rate was available by default, though this same panel in clevo G-sync machine allows 75hz by default.
also my friend had some drivers issue on his machine couple of days ago not allowing to enable Gsync, and until he figured it out only 60hz default refresh was available.
i was talking about default refresh rate, not a custom one.
i also had once a problem to set a custom 75hz without G bios - got artifacts. but then after installing G bios - it boosted itself 75hz with no problem and even allowed OC. but that was only once with one single panel, perhaps that was just a glitch.
That is because different system read specific EDID's?
And yes it will depend on the panel and the system it is paired with. End of the day its not difficult to setup 75Hz as a custom resolution. Heck of a lot easier solution than having to flash over a compatible EDID or to have to change the panel multiple times.

I had the same issue with or without G-Sync in CSGO. I play that game @ 1024x768 and no matter what ,it would only work at 60hz. No way to force it to run at 75Hz/105Hz. Even with or without custom resolutions. Just the way it is with the stored resolution/frequency tables.
Yes on my desktop it works fine (1280x960 144hz) . But on the DM1 the game always runs at 60Hz at anything other 1920x1080. With or without GSync.
There is something with what refresh rates are stored along side the supported resolutions.
today installed quadro card into p770dm-g, which had 75hz enabled before the GPU swap. after booting up with quadro card inside and installing geforce drivers, 75hz option was no more, only 60hz available.
Hello. This might be a long shot but could this be done to windows? Bought a replacement screen for my laptop and the gsync and 75hz option was gone after installing the new one

We could try registry hacking, if you like. It should be possible to create an auto-execute registry mod, removing the current panel's edid and substituting one that is g-sync approved by your bios, vbios and driver. Only tricky bit is setting system permissions to 'read only' for those keys, otherwise Widows will simply reinstall the current panel (except if you happen to have automatic driver install disabled).
Mind that you'd best make a complete system image before running system-critical autoexecutables that affect the registry. I.e., not a Windows 'backup', but a true disk image.
I'll use them tomorrow to make an auto-execute registry mod thingy for you. Make sure you've made a backup prior running that, something like
Macrium Reflect Free will do nicely.
Your system is too modern for those tools and your edid is probably write-protected anyway.
No worries; moninfo is mostly harmless, being a read-only tool.
