which computer is faster for games and applications.

comparison should be with similar configuration including 512mb video card in each.

I will buy the faster computer and I will buy from powernotebook.com if sager is faster.

Two hard drives in RAID array don't do much for the gaming aspect of the rig. That is, if I'm not mistaken.

You're right, but that means you can have room for everything else you can imagine. The 5760 has the capacity to fit two 120gb HD's in it. The 5760 seems like the best fit for the money, although the dell is flashier, but its your call, other than the price tag and the hard drive options, and the casing, they should be almost identical.

I also will opt for the wuxga because no matter what members say here in previous posts, there WILL be games optimized for this screen and from my experience games and movies in wuxga look better.

    what do you think?

The Dell has a 3DMARK '06 score that's 113 points higher than the Sager. However, if you build each notebook with the following configuration:

-Intel Core Duo/Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz (the cost is the same; Sager doesn't have the 2.16 C2D in stock yet)
    -17" WUXGA screen
    -2GB RAM
    -100GB HD, 7200 RPM
    -8X DVD-ROM/24X CD-ROM Combo Drive
    -Windows XP Professional pre-installed
    -3-year warranty (from Dell/Sager)

The Sager will cost you $2998.27 (cash-discounted from PowerNotebooks.com), and the Dell will cost you a whopping $3,643 direct from Dell. You can cut about $300 from that difference by ordering the black case on the XPS, but still...

If 100 3DMarks are worth $650 (or $350) to you, I would go with the Dell-otherwise, the Sager would be my choice. Sager will have the Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz CPUs in early October.

Note also that the 3DMark '06 score for the Sager that I'm referencing was obtained after the reviewer installed a hotfix that allows Windows to better take advantage of the dual-core processor.

I think the Sager will also feel pretty solid compared to the dell. I was considering a dell. But honestly look for the higher model not in the xps familiy. All the flashiness of the XPS adds like 700$ to the tag.

The Sager 5760 is one capable machine :). I love it.

While I am sure the XPS 1710 is one awesome machine (I was quite impressed by Chaz's review of it), I am thoroughly happy with my NP5760. It is the most performing machine in its range that I have ever used, not to mention one of the most reliable laptops as far as build quality is concerned.

PS: my review is being assembled, slowly, but it is. Look forward to a, um, "new" type of game benchmarking. ;)

consider also the tech support factor. as anyone will tell you, tech support through dell is totally dee dee dee (aka retarded for those who don't watch Carlos Mencia). with powernotebooks, you get support from paladin and his people there, and if they can't help you they help you move your issue to Sager tech support. I have heard nothing but good things with Sager and powernotebook support... read the few threads with people who had problems with their sager, and how good tech support handled it.
