I need help really quick. i just got my np8660 from xoticpc and it is running reallyy slow. often not responding.i have a 2.53 processor with vista 64bit and 4 gigs ram. i need to know if there is anyway to improve preformance because of right now im extremely disappointed. it shouldnt take 1 and a half hours to install spore on this setup.

be plugged into AC power.
make sure your Power Options is set to Maximum Performance.
Also make sure that you are not in Silent Mode.
And you can do diagnostics by running benchmarks and tests:
CPU: wPrime 1.55 (set threads to 2)
RAM: MemTest86+
HDD: HDTune
GPU: 3DMark06 (make sure to post screenshot or all data.. SM2.0, SM3.0, and CPU Score) -
how do i check if it in silent mode and what programs do i need to run test. i do have it pluged in and its on max performance
-
if you read the User's Manual, you can see the Fn Keys and shortcuts... one of which is to toggle Silent Mode.
-
ok ill look thanks for the help ill see if it hellps
-
yeah i think it was on silent mode i swithed it over to normal everything is a little faster but installing game is steal deadly slow
-
test the HDD performance with HDTune and post the results screenshot.
-
how do i post a print screen?
-
capture screenshots through snipping tool, and upload it to photobucket or whatever.
-
- press Print Screen to take a snapshot of the screen
- open MSpaint (or any other picture editor)
- paste (CTRL+V) to paste the snapshot
- save as JPG
then attach the image in the post
...or go to www.imagshack.us to host the image -
Gophn printscreen no longer work in vista.
-
i got it look up
-

That HDD is defective. thats your problem. Call your reseller.
-
yup, get your vendor to cross ship you a new HDD.... so you wont have to ship your whole system back.
HDD swap is quick and simple, even shown in the User's Manual -
wow thanks guys. so will i have to send my old hdd that is defective back?
-
yup.
first contact your vendor to tell them about the faulty HDD.
then they should tell you how to cross ship the old HDD while they send a new one.
they might even email you a UPS or FedEx printable slip to place on a package... so you wont have to pay for shipping. -
kind of sucks though. i waited 2 weeks for this computer and now ill have to wait 2 more fore it. kind of disappointing.
-
So you can see the diff, here's my old Fujitsu's HDTune:
-
Yep, you send the old one back after they send you the new one, so there is no downtime for you.
See if they can send you a return package as well, so it doesn't cost to anything to send it back to them.
This is what PCMW does. I'm not sure about the other companies. But it wouldn't hurt to ask. -
yo thanks for the comparision kevin.

i have a problem i used my dads credit card and so now i have to have him sign the paper they sent me and i have to have a copy of his liseance. but im SOL because he is out of state and i can ask for this info until he returnes this Thursday. dang it wish i would have just got my own credit card for this. o well i guess. it is ok though because after 3 hours of installing crysis i finally got it and it plays amazing on my NP8660 even with a defective Hdd.
-
LOL. nice... gaming on a defective HDD.
-
-
yeah true. but i did pay for it my self. what i did was deposit the money in my dads banking acct and then bought the laptop.
-
G/L! I thought I had a faulty drive as well cuz installs took forever and a day. I just reformatted XP using the non-quick NTFS option and everything works great. My HDD never got near 60C, at least when it was on a notebook cooler. Have you tried that with your vista?
-
no i didnt try that. i did call up sager and they told me that they would send me a replacement hdd. so i didnt try anything. thanks for the advice though.
-
on the subject of slow computers... if I have an external HDD and a printer plugged in to the laptop when it powers on, is it normal for bootup to take 30-50 seconds longer? I unplugged them and rebooted and it was fast again...(after booting computer performance is normal its only powering on that slows down)
-
Maybe the computer looks for bootable content on the hard drive? Is it during the BIOS loading, Vista loading (with the bars) or before the welcome message...
-
Try going to the F2 setup menu while it's plugged in, then check the boot order.
-
@liveoft its during vista loading and before the welcome message, i dont think it is during bios
slow NP8660
