Ha dude, I'm with ya there, I've been telling myself I'm gonna wait for Nehalem ever since I heard of it early January :)

Really, I just want a powerful CPU since Starcraft 2, the only real game I'm looking forward to, should be pretty CPU intensive.

People said I was crazy for waiting a full year + for Nehalem, but I think I'll just stick it out with my T2300 + Go 7400 for now

no but a 40% gain is FAR BETTER than say a 10% gain we will most likely see with montevina

True. But I don't think anything will beat the performance gain I will achieve from this p4 to the montevina. :p

Now that is gonna be some serious culture shock.

would it be worth it to buy a 570 soon (mid to late june) then when the quads come out, buy a quad and replace it?

But, to get back on-topic, aah, the age-old question, do I buy it know, and keep my fingers crossed that the next-best coming out in a few months will fit, or do I wait, and continue to put up with the computer-equivalent of a model-T? Depends on how seriously you suffer from buyers' remorse, how badly you inflict same on your near-and-dears, and how long that list is of things you cannot do on your current system and that are waiting until the time when you get a new system. If the list is sufficiently long, then it's probably best to bite the bullet, buy now, and just stick your fingers in your ears and hum when/if the next-best is finally released (and stay away from forum-grazing, too :D ).

if sager says they can't put the 9800m gtx in a 15.4 inch then i won't trust any company that has it in one. don't want an AW type system that overheats.

If they can put the 9800m GT or the 9800m GTS in a 15.4 inch ill get that or another company's version but right now it looks like im gonna get the ASUS G50. (9700m gt in a 15.4 inch)

Are any of those cards better than the 8800M GTX for any reason? (9800m GT, 9800m GTS, or the 9700m?)

they all support hybrid sli and geforce boost. More specifically they can all switch between IGP and dedicated graphics and the IGP and dedicated can work simoultaneously for better graphics performance. Also, nvidia claims the mobile 9 series is a big improvement performance wise over the 8m series. And supposedly less heat less power consumption and smaller.

none of this is really proven and as for heat, we know tey are not cooler as the 9800m GTX being so hot it the reason it is not being supported in the M860TU laptop.
also, all of the laptop that you buy with discreet GPU's will not have intigrate GPU's so the feature to run both IGB and discreet is pretty much non existant.

Actually it will take a laptop with the nVIDIA chipset to support their Hybrid video card technology...any laptop using the Intel chipset will not support it.

Basically, get the 8800 for now. If a more powerful card is supported later on, yay for you, upgrade to it. The power of the Clevo. :)

none yet i don't think but if there are any just wait for one with a good 9m series card in it. You need bot hte motherboard and the video card to support the Hybrid SLI and GeForce Boost

terrible idea... the new 9m series cards support hybrid sli and geforce boost as previously said. and that's a total waste of money to upgrade right after buying a high end card such as the 8800m gtx. nVidia is boasting a lot of goodies with the high-end 9 series. including the 40% performance boost over the 8m series. This is all nVidia's precursor statements that we cannot prove but with speculation such as this, the high end 9 series is definitely worth waiting for. don't make everyone else make the same mistake u did lol!

Uh, i wouldnt call it a mistake if they arent supporting the 9800GTX...Because then ur other options arent as powerful...unless we get a nice surprise at the launch. Not to mention you wont see the benefit of the hybrid SLI.

Its up-to 40% not 40% the actual performance increase between the 8800 and 9800 will probably be closer to 15% or less given the increase in SPs (96 -> 112) and the shader calcs (360->420). But without benchmarks that is only speculation as is your belief that it will actually be a 40% jump.

PC Microworks at least offers to buy back any hardware components they sold you if you upgrade to a better component through them. I think there's even a discount if you buy their three year warranty

It probably means synthetic benchmarking, which doesn't really translate into real life performance.

if you read more carefuly i said it was nVidia's precursor statements. I didn't say I believed it

a lot of people on these forums think the 9800m GTS and 9800m GT will both be more powerful than the 8800m GTX. Some think the 9700m GT is the 8800m GTX. And we wil see the benefit of hybrid SLI (power saving switching to IGP when needed). Won't see the benefit of geforce boost most likely.

Hybrid switching requires the nVIDIA chipset...it will not work with the Intel PM/GM45 chipset.

I think that nobody who buys the 8800GTX will think they are an idiot that made a mistake when its all said and done.

EDIT: At least on the m860...cause most of the BIG benefits arent seen on it regardless (Hybrid switch)

@Driedal 9700 is 8800 GTX? Hahaa you are joking right? The spec page for the 9700 is down now but it was pretty sad. It had like 32 SP's... again maybe these SP's are 'super SP's' that are 2x faster but I doubt they are significantly faster. Even the 9800m GTS is unlikely to be faster than the 8800m GTX.

I remember looking at the 9700m gt page that nVidia accidentally put up but I don't remember the specifics.
