was searching the forum and came across a post about the spare fan grill on the m570, I found out it's for a 40mm fan, but is there a name for the tiny fan connector on the motherboard? it's like 5mm in length, looks the same as the vga fan connector.
although all the 40mm fans I could find on ebay have the connectors found in desktop machines.

i finally found the right fan, i installed it but it doesn't spin up, it's not faulty because I then connected it to the vga fan connector and it worked. Is there a keyboard shortcut for it to spin up or is the J_CASEFAN1 connector useless?
-
been looking in the forbidden text, i.e. the document which us customers aren't supposed to have, it says something like CPU fan changed to 4pin and a date in 2007, I checked and the cpu heatsink fan is 4pin, does this mean the extra fan bit is obsolete or disabled somehow? I thought it might spin up when putting some load on it but nope, nothing happened...looks like i'll be returning the fan.
I have bought a nc3000s and a pile of ram sinks which i'm going to place on the ram that isn't covered.
btw the fan i got was a BS4005M2B, 5mm 3pin connector, 40mm fan, the screw holes fit perfectly onto the screw holes on third fan grill. Shame it doesn't do anything though. -
This is what you need for Clevo M570RU :
CPU FAN MODULE 45MM 5V 0.5A 4200RPM BS4505M2B -
-
Other than these 2 fans, I don't have any idea:
CPU FAN MODULE 45MM 5V 0.5A 4200RPM BS4505M2B
VGA FAN MODULE 55MM 5V 0.5A 3200RPM BS5505M2B
Maybe the connector you are talking about is disabled on motherboard -
I'm just gonna return it to the ebay seller if he accepts. I reckon it's not connected or just not needed because of the other fan.
but yea probably disabled...
and I can't find any molex splitters with the mini connectors -
Yeah, I ran into the same problem. It's def. hooked up, I checked the MB connector myself, voltages and amps were just where they should be. As far as I can tell the EC lacks the entries to run a 3rd fan. If someone wants to hack a custom EC firmware and create an entry for the 3rd fan it might work
-
I still can't find a name / description of the mini connectors, it is a type of molex right? I found a two pin cable but that no use and it wasn't a splitter. I so want to get this working now -
took a photo of the connector, maybe someone can tell what they are called so I can google for one?
-
I'm fairly certain it is a type of molex, but that's like saying a vehicle is a Ford, it doesn't really tell us anything.
All you would really need to do is splice the yellow wire to one of the other fans since that is the one that issues the commands to the fan. However, it is possible that splicing it could bring the signal below the threshold needed by the fan to recognize it which could lead to neither fan kicking in when it should or erratic/intermittent behavior. -
You dont want to split it off another connector as the fans will both run at 1/2 speed...
And the yellow wire doesn't send commands to the fan (do you see any control circuitry on the fan to accept 'commands'??), it reports to the motherboard how fast the fan is spinning, all the fan needs to change speed is different voltages, which are controlled by the EC. -
Meh, I was close.
-
lol, so I guess the only way to get it working would be to add the 3rd fan to the EC bios? and I suppose that is very hard and too complex?
I received my brand new zalman cooler this morning which the postman decided to sign for and leave out in the cold...also it doesn't work.
R A G E...... -
Only 2 fans are supported by the BIOS. So to run an eventual third fan you'd need a BIOS update.
However I doubt that will happen now, seeing as the M570**-series are being replaced...
spare fan connector in m570, 5mm something?
