so i've had my sager 5760 since early june, and it's been great. however, i've been having this recurring problem and it seems to have escalated.

when i turn the notebook on, everything looks okay until the windows xp load screen. once it gets to the load screen, on the led display, the caps lock, num lock and scroll lock icons start flashing and the computer starts beeping. the eventual result of this is the computer powering down, sometimes directly after i've logged in and sometimes before.

before today, this has happened 3 or 4 times in the month that i've owned it, with the problem remedying itself after a few boot-ups on my part. this time, it has been consistent for 30+ hours. :(

    any ideas/assistance?

    thanks.

Whenever the computer beeps, it's most likely a serious problem. Check if anything is broken or disconnected. My guess it's either the processor or the memory

If you have two pieces of memory, take one out at a time to see if the issue goes away with one or the other of them.

Also, rotate them through the two slots to make sure it isn't a bad slot.

If it works correctly with one and not the other, contact tech support to get the bad one replaced under your warranty.

I agree with paladin... Try messing with your memory(RAM). I too have had the notebook since early June but have only been using it a few days now. In my short time of use a very similar condition surfaced. A quick power off and on again worked to solve the problem in the immediate term. I have seen this in other laptops and it has always been RAM related.

I am watching for the issue to start to reoccur more frequently before looking into it further...
