I just got my sager 5790, and wanted to run a few programs to make sure the hardware is working correctly at full speed, and just to make sure nothing is out of place (like heatsink on cpu, or memory...). What programs should I run to diagnose hardware? I was thinking like 3dmark (05 or 06?) and pcmark (05 or 06?), and maybe memtest. Is it a good idea to optimize memory timings/voltages for your specific memory units? I dont really know much about optimizing hardware performance.

Also, what scores should I be reaching for 3d/pcmark? Thanks!

Optimizing the performance is usually made by overclocking the CPU/GPU. However it is not something I recommend. You can run any CPU & GPU intensive programs to test.

sorry Fade To Black, but i gotta disagree with you on this one..there are many things one can do to optimize system performance..most important things are finding drivers that work the best for your needs, editing registry and disabling services that you don't need..that includes some of OS processes, programs in autostart, options in programs that are running in the background and many, many more things..
..overclocking is just overclocking..it's forcing hardware to work outside of its specification and has nothing to do with optimization

n.joy your new mashine Taiman89..i'm going to get that beast pretty soon as well..D901C just seems a bit too much for me ;)

if u want to see ur system performance get the 3dmark06 it test ur system and tells u a score
then u can put ur drivers in and tweak it.
    retest
it will give u somthing to go off of before and after
i think thats what u are asking
but i just woke up so i might be reading wrong again

bobeer86 he was referring to hardware optimizations, not software. Software is mainly based on drivers and services.
