they may have updated it..the info i posted was taken from a replacement site where i know someone who sells the screens. i would go by what is now listed on the web site and also the 9262 uses the same model screens from what i am told as the 579x models do..

I was told by Justin at XoticPC that the 9262 does indeed use the WU1 for WUXGA..

then i must have the WU1 and i must say that it is pretty good for me. good brightness and very minimal light leakage towards the bottom. viewing angles are good, too. if i remember, though, the alienware m9750 i used to have had a birghter screen but more light leakage and a very lousy viewing angle from below.

i am curious to see how much better the new model is.

^^^ pretty much agreed. it not the best screen i have seen but it is pretty nice. very minimal light leakage. could be brighter, colors are great though, does have some grain to it but its minimal. overall not a bad 6 bit panel

I wonder if it`d be worth it to upgrade the screen.
Well, actually, not for me, I`m fine with mine. Although a brighter one would brighten my day...

Nop my friend, the WU1 is better than the WU3... ;)

Unfortunately LG.Phillips will discontinue the WU1 over the new WU3 with lower specs, to lower the WUXGA panels cost.

Here it is an comparation between both models(older specs .pdf VS new):

WU5 :notworthy: 100 color saturation and 16milion colors over 256k...

+1 re: WU5, I'm in for the first Sager notebook that has this screen.

The Blackhawk Xr5 may offer the WU5 lcd as an option:

As between Audigy and LG, I'd trust Audigy over LG - if LG is dumping the WU1 and replacing it with the WU3 just to get cheaper product, my guess is that they're trying to pull the old soviet-style PR trick of airbrushing out of the picture the inconvenient facts of the fact, like the original WU1 with better specs.

Just as an example, from an otherwise very unreliable website:
(though the website pretends otherwise, I believe that this is one of their primary training tools - pretending history doesn't exist)
    Trotsky "bites" the dust

i was told some of the specs there on the wu1 were not correct by a lg rep...there are 13 different versions of the wu1 btw...that from what i was told does not cover them all. that is a general spec sheet.

I mean : CPUs are made of options, hdds are made of options, why couldn`t we choose what screen to have also ?

Can you quantify :)D ) "frightfully expensive" - we're dealing with folks who're willing to drop US$3-$4 on a system, so we may be a little less faint of heart than many.

Try something like Monitor Asset Manager or Power Strip from Entech; if your display's info is in there, one of these utilities should be able to find it.

yes that is a "generic" name for the lp171wu1...usually used by apple. not sure how or why they found their way into the clevo's. maybe just what lg shipped out since they had them in stock at the time.. ?? dont know. also the lplf600 is the lp171wu1 as well

My pure (cynical) speculation would be: some one at the LG plant started programming the batch of units from whence came ARGH's display with EDID data for shipment to _Apple, when either (i) he realized he was zapping the wrong set of pallets, or (ii) _Apple changed its mind about accepting delivery of that particular pallet, so they got sent back - hopefully double-checked - and put right back in line for shipment out, to another buyer (Clevo).

EDIT: I think the snotty, truly self-absorbed companies, like _Sony and _Apple have it done that way so that they can pretend that they built the entire system, from assembling the first molecules of silicon, up to Steve Jobs personally putting the final dab of polish on the exterior, when in fact they're no more "manufacturers" than Sager is - what's more, Sager's honest about it, the others're just posers. _Sony even went so far as to hide the true identity of the maker of the display unit in my )$% vaio in their own confidential top-secret service manual - the only way I finally found out was by opening the back of the lid up so I could see the label stuck on the back of the display unit itself. Pathetic it what it is.
