    Hi,

the fan on my p150hm is quite loud when running on AC power, even when all that is up is the aero desktop. It gets nice and quiet on battery, so I was wondering if there is a nice way of quickly clocking the 485M monster down when not gaming. This would save the fan, power and my ears :) Just going to "power save" profile does not seem to cut it, or I am suffering from a heavy case of observer bias :)

One thing to consider is, it being loud because it needs to. Do you have any temp monitor programs running and if so what are your temps. I see you mentioned you have a 485M so i'm gonna guess your computer is rougly 6months old or older. Have you cleaned out the fans and vents from any accumilated dust/pet hair. Doing this can drop temps down and the fans will slow down.

The temperature drops to 46 degrees C when I don't do absolutely anything, and the clocks are at the low performance level (50/67.5/101 MHz). I am not sure if this is high or low. I try to keep my fans clean using a vacuum cleaner tube, but I am of course open to suggestions. The fan is nice and quiet at this point.
What I have noticed is that is is really easy to kick the card all the way to max (573/750/1150 MHz) just doing mundane office work and moving windows around, which causes the temperature to rise quickly (to 60 degrees maybe) and fans to accelerate.
What I am saying is that I do not think this performance level is necessary to render the desktop, so I would like to lock it out (which working on battery does, at least when on Linux) when I am not playing games.
    P.S.
I have the latest BIOS/EC from November installed.

You can try undervolting to further lower temps on it, but it won't make a huge difference. The power saving settings on this card are already quite good (as you can tell by the very low clocks compared to stock that you listed. Check out this thread for how to do it (note that undervolting/overvolting can damage the card and possibly void your warranty).

Just FYI 46c on idle is insanely high.
Also if it raises to 60c in a split second something ain't right.
Mine idles at 37c,tops to 80c under heavy overclock (icdiamond+u3).
I advice to repaste ASAP before things get worse.

Hmm, OK, I'll look into it. My specs are very similar to yours, I also got my system from MySN. I am not sure if they used IC Diamond as standard though.
