But, why? You won't see much in the way of a performance increase unless you're playing at a really low res.

You'd see, at most, a 10% increase in the HD4000 performance, only when using it alone for games.

Ideally doing so would possibly cut down what the system kicks the dGPU on for, but at the same time you're essentially overclocking a part of the CPU, which consumes more power and generates more heat. I don't have numbers to back it up, but I'd have to agree that it wouldn't serve too much use unless you normally use a program that runs on the HD4000 and could use a little more GPU oomph.

There wouldn't be much of a gain, although depending on the CPU and GPU, the TDP of the CPU is often lower between the two, so you could OC the iGPU and probably not put as much heat on the system v.s. OC'ing the GPU with a intrinsically higher TDP.

But performance wise, I agree with *Derek and Hybrys that it's rather moot.

Edit: ↓"Not Hutsady"↓. Now that I'm finished with my morning coffee, that shouldn't happen again until tomorrow morning. :p

Even then, the ONLY thing that would increase in performance for overclocking the HD4000 would be gaming applications. Rendering and etc shouldn't use the entirety of the HD4000 core anyway.

Your best bet for increasing performance like that is overclocking your RAM (which, in turn, overclocks the HD4000 RAM, since they share RAM pools.)

You can overclock the IGP but it has no impact on an optimus setup (I checked).
