i'm a total windows noob and i'm trying to dual boot my clevo with vista 64 and xp. i've done a fresh install of vista 64 where i partitioned my hard drive, is it now possible to load xp onto the other partition? i've tried booting from the xp disc but i get a stop message every time. I've just updated to the latest bios but still get the same message. if anybody can point me towards a tutorial that would work i'd be most grateful. the machine doesn't seem to want to boot from xp at all. Thanks.

Welcome to the NBR forums.
You actually are doing it the hard way... in reverse.
I have a dual boot for XP 32-bit and Vista.
you are supposed to install XP first, then when you install Vista next, the Vista bootloader will be created seamlessly to detect the previous XP installation.
installing XP after Vista, is much more difficult... I recommend to do it over again if you do not want to do a lot of workarounds. -
i thought that must be the case but wanted to double check. thanks for the advice.
