Anyone notice if they hdd is under heavy load the typing has random lags/delays? It does not seem to miss any keys at least like my old G50 asus did but it will pause and catch up if under load. (buffering)

I tested by holding down a key it will stop for a moment and resume.

    Mouse movement was fine.

Also, CPU usage was under 2%, 6gb free mem and HDD usage was actually about 10MB/sec which is low (prob just more seeking ect).

Anyway just found it a little odd to do that. I could understand if the CPU was taxed bad also or something. It does not always do it, just under what seems to be more random hdd cycles or seek time. I can copy a file (a big one) and its fine.

I do have it in ACHI mode with RST drivers on. Clean install.
Anyway just figure would see if anyone else ever noticed that?

Never had it happen on a desktop or other laptops (other than my asus messing up but that would mess up idle and was just a model defect).

Just wanted to say that I notice it as well. Usually when the disk is thrashing typing becomes delayed. It's most noticeable for me I first startup Firefox. My homepage is set to Google, and when FF first opens and is still loading stuff in the background for a split second, ifI start keying something into the search bar really fast there is a slight delay until it shows up. May also have to do with MSE real-time protection scanning in the background. I figured it is just a typical HDD bottleneck, which are usually one of the slowest components in your computer. SSD users probably don't have this problem.

Nope. It's really just a common HDD bottleneck. I had a Toshiba and an Asus before, and both also experiencing the same typing lag under heavy load - say, opening 50 FF tabs and about 10 IDM windows. Both also had different brand of HDD (the Toshiba had a Hitachi while the Asus had a Seagate), So it's not exclusive to Clevo (and Seagate, if you keep the stock HDD).

    This is all very odd.

When you type its not being stored on the HDD and the HDD should not really impact it I would think unless your CPU/RAM is taxed also which is what is handling the typing. Must have something to do with the buss or I/O operations on the system.

I know HDD are bottleneck but being they are 7200 RPM and I never had a desktop do it and none of the 6 laptops I have had in the past did it.

I mean any computer will possibly lag under cpu/mem/ load/tax but I am meaning just under HDD load and cpu idle for this example.

I have the standard 500GB Seagate it came with.

I mean the machine seems to run fine, gets 5.9 on HDD on Windows index, speeds seem to be about 50meg if transferring a file from it to another.

Was just trying to see if one of those odd things that some computers just do.

For example every dell laptop I have used ever sometimes could cause audio to brief freeze/loop for a sec under load, lol

    Ew, Seagate lol.

I've always had bad luck with them. I switched out my OEM Seagate HDD that came with my laptop and switched over to a WD Scorpio Black. Before my audio and screen would lag/freeze up. No issues at all.

I even did a clean install on the Seagate before ruling out the HDD.

Funny, I have always loved Seagate.

I do IT work for a living and have had more WD drives die in the field vs Seagate. Seagate does run warmer and sometimes louder but they also tend to have better seek times/speeds and have lasted longest for me. (and I am talking about 1000+ computers I am responsible for) They also for the most part have had 5yr warranty vs WD 3yr on most the ones I have used, and I have some in worst conditions. (outdoors in hot dirty env lol).

The dells I have worked with that have the audio lag type issue are on WD drives, haha but I think those are more of a dell manufacture flaw in design as its been around for as long as I can remember.

I have no real need to want to buy another HD though. 500GB is fine for me. While I wish it was faster, (came from a raid 0 laptop) size wise its fine for me. Can't afford SSD after spending 2500+ on the lappy and now have ran into some issue in my personal life with a family member passing I have to take care of financially so am not in great shape to waste any cash.

Oh well, guess I will have to live with it. Guess its possible to be the HDD but it passes its test and for the most part runs fine.
