I'm looking into upgrading my P150HM to 16GB ram.
I know it's possible to do that with 4x4GB SO-DIM DDR3 chips, but two of those slots are rather difficult to reach.
There are 8GB chips for sale at reasonable prices, so I'd prefer those if possible.

The maximum amount of ram is specced to 16GB, but I don't know if that's because each slot can take only 4GB or if it's because 8GB SO-DIMMs were not available when the machine was new.

8GB was not common is the only reason, 2x8GB would let you add more if you need it later on, what are you running that needs the ram though?

Thank you Meaker, that's great news!

Well, to be honest I really haven't proven that there's something important I need to do that needs >8GB. (editing huge DSLR images maybe, but 8GB will most likely be enough).
I't more like a principle. I figured the machine (bought in 2011) would last 4 years and that it thus would make sense to upgrade it (more ram + HDD -> SDD) halfway through that period.
Also, in 1993 when I bought my first (8MB) PC, there was an article in a newspaper about a new Cray machine featuring 32GB ram. Extrapolating from the C64 and Amiga machines I'd owned, I figured the that it would be realistic to have 32GB in the year 2015 (roughly double memory every two years). So 16GB now would be right on that track.
    Here's admitting to being silly...

BTW, 8GB chips is available in 1.35V and 1.5V versions. Do both work well with a P150HM?

Yes they do work but get forced to 1.5v iirc.

type in (sager 8150 keyboard removal to access ram dimms under keyboard) on youtube
this will take you to a video of how to access the other 2 sticks. or (Monster Clevo P150 HM removable keyboard) on youtube
also , I did a small rendering on poser the other day and was using over 8 GB ram
you can make an 8GB ramdisk with (softperfect ram disk) to speed up video editing
just with drive indexing turned on right now , 4 hard drives, I am using 5 GB ram with only 4 web pages opened

If you find yourself playing with a lot of ram 4x8gb is fairly cheap and works no problem.
