    Hi all

i just got myself a 151hm1 and i was wondering if it was decently priced to replace my 560m with a 6990m and i heard that i would need a larger dc supply of 180w too. i checked on ebay and there was one canadian dealer that offered me 550cad for both the 6990m and the 180w along with heatsinks and stuff but i felt that it was still alil steep. i was wondering where else i could get an mxm supplier.

can i get opinions from people who have done it on theirs?

    cheers mates

That price seems about right. The 6990M costs $490 USD.

I'm not sure you can put an 6990m into a mobo that had an nvidia chip, I was told you needed to stay with the brand it came with. Also, the powersupply may not be enough to handle that GPU.

How is the HD6990 doing thermal wise and noise wise?

Thermal and noise wise the cooling system on the Sagers is amazing so no need to worry, people say it runs about 70-90 tops. And no you do not need to stick with nvidia, they all use the same kind of slot so it doesn't matter.

Apparently that's only true for the P170HM.

This upgrade is most certainly possible. I did it months ago right when the 6990m was first released. Everything will fit, but you will obviously need it to come with the appropriate Heat Sink.

As others mentioned, you need the 180w power supply as well. It is a pretty easy install. I had never changed a graphics card or built a PC and it took maybe 10 minutes?

Buy the best available thermal paste before the install.

Yes, I believe it's due to the 3D 40-pin interface for the Nvidia cards only on the 17" models. My bad.
