Express got me a brokerage fee; UPS has their own broker, so you _always_ get hit by it, IIRC.

Not always... But most of the time. If it's for a clevo model, better buy locally. If it's for the 2090 model, well, you'll have no choice and cross your fingers ;).

In my experience and with my numerous imports from the states, it's almost always a question of bad luck. With USPS priority, 10% of the packages get hit by taxes and a 8$ broker fee (listening UPS? 8$). With UPS, 80$ of my packages got hit by taxes and a 30$ broker fee.

Now. I think Hypersonic ships UPS and THEY cover the broker, but you pay the taxes. Maybe xotic also covers the broker, I don't know.

But indeed there are reports here that their system delivered tax free with UPS express...

One thing is sure though is that if you buy here you WILL pay the taxes.

BUT, I always have to reming people how it's a PITA biuying cross border for warranty replacements and stuff.

Have you checked Eurocom? What are you looking for?

Last time I had phone conversation with someone in UPS she told me the broker fee will be included if it's flight shipping. And to confirm the validity of her claim I phoned again and got a hold of a gentleman and he told me the exact same thing. There's no duty to pay since sager 2090 is assembled in US.

There is always a risk the courier will charge you fees for getting the item trough custom.... and judging from a recently bought 450$ US item, 80$ for the UPS guy to send a 1 page from via email is hugely overpaid...... The extra 25$ GST I can understand.

You can avoid the custom clearance fee if you go to the custom office and clear it trough custom yourself.. Of course you can only do this if you live near the custom office.

Quick tip, if you have something send via the US Postal Service, it is then handed over to Post Canada wich doesn't charge you custom clearance fees...but it won,t be an express delivery.

express will fl the item in to the nearest transit location.. brokerage fees are covered in the express fee unless its classified as a special item.. computer ellectroonics is covered under the NAFTA agreement and therefore no customes fees.. only GST / PST or HST where applicable

So yeah to sum it up, Express includes broker fee.

But expect to pay taxes. There's a chance you won't pay them, but don't count on it.

I ordered 2 cameras from J&R this week (man, with the money exchange and USA's lower prices, those are bargains!) and I am in Montreal. They will send the package UPS Canada Express. I will report here if I was lucky or not and what were the fees. If I pay the takes, this order will save me about 100$ anyway (like 20%) so there is room for fees. The Canon S5 IS was like 425$cad here (cheapest I could find) and Dell.com have it @ 339$us (which J&R matched and they ship to Canada). Chop 8% of money exchange there and you have a great deal!
