After a game or two, what is the temperature of the CPU and GPU?
You can check by running HWMonitor. The program will record the lowest and highest temperatures experienced by the components during the time it is open.
Also, what is the model of your graphics card? Is it the GeForce 9800M-GT?
If it is, I think you can stop the downclocking of your GPU by disabling Powermiser, but I would not recommend doing this if your computer is experiencing abnormally high temperatures. -
run hwmonitor, then fire up the heaviest game you have and play for 10-20min, then tell us the max temps.

when your gpu overheats, it downclocks. this is a last ditch (and effective) effort to prevent hardware failure.
this is normal behavior and you cannot and should not try to prevent it.
however, you can attempt to cool off the laptop so that it does not overheat.
1. open a window if its cold outside / get some circulation in the room with the laptop (literally, this is legitimately helpful).
2. make sure the laptop is on a decent flat surface (a bed is bad, a desk is good)
3. get a notebook cooler. -
make sure you are NOT blocking the bottom vent/fan.
ONLY use the notebook on clean, hard, flat surfaces (or notebook cooler).
NEVER use it on a soft surface (lap, bed, couch, etc..)... which will block the bottom fan to get airflow. -
its downclocked even when hwmonitor says that it is at 45 degrees C. it dosen't slow down halfway through a game. after a fire up a second game it slows down. really weird. and i never use it on anything that would block the fan. How do i disable the downclocking through powermiser? The card is a 9800m GTS.

downclocks around 60~ degrees C temps don't get any higher than that
-
those temps seem fine.
it might be something else.
could be power related.. like someone else recently had the same issue.
whats the power rating on your power brick? -

Yah, I think I was the one Gophn is referring to. I got a 90W power brick instead of the 120W which caused me some downclocking probs when playing games and benchmarking.

This notebook shouldn't be downclocking due to heat (assuming no manufacturing issues/loose sealant, etc); I'd get that power brick (+ other power issues) looked at by your vendor.
