Hi, this is my first post, been following the boards since i decided to buy my w860cu this summer though.

I'm having problems with the audio crashing. This happens randomly when playing games, music or video. What happens is the last second or so of sound output gets looped over and over, untill i do a restart. Muting does not work when this occurs.

My system specs (if it should matter) are:
    Windows 7 64bit
    i7 720
    4 gig ram
    gtx 285m
    no bluetooth or mobile broadband.

    The audio driver is: 6.0.1.5910

I hope someone has a solution for this as it is really annoying. The problem doesn't seem to occur when i run Ubuntu.

I might also add that i am using SRS audio sandbox and that no programs are allowed to take full control of the device.

This may not necessarily be the audio that is crashing. Often when I get a bluescreen, the audio that is playing at the time will loop continuously until a restart. My bluescreens in particular were caused by a faulty RAM module.

Thank you for your reply, but the problem is not BSoD or system crash. The system runs fine while the audio loops. Games play and everything is normal but i am unable to start playback of music files.

i had the same exact problem and i believe that this is not a software-related issue. very likely, the soundboard is broken. mine was, maybe, caused by a faulty HDD which caused weird high temps which broke the audio chip. i had to send it back to my reseller to fix it. the problem is gone since then.

anyways, it seemed weird to me. i hadn't time to try a fresh install of windows. try reinstalling without installing anything but the OS and see if the problem appears again.

First off remove things like SRS audio sandbox or anything else like that. If it still happens then do a reinstall and only install the drivers that came with your notebook. If it still happens after that it is most likely hardware.
