any ideas what kind of play time this thing will have?
m15x is clocking in at a spectacular 2hours on power saving mode, and 1hour "gaming"
I remember reading somewhere that the sager np9280 (17in core i7 clevo machine of some sort) had an estimated battery life on "gaming" settings of 23minutes but no mention of how long you could stretch that out.
Is the w860cu better designed on the power front? I realize it will necesarily use less power because of the smaller screen and single hard drive but 23minutes is still dismal.

2 to 2.5 hours is what I have read so far, possibly while doing light stuff like browsing the Internet or whatever.
-
whats the life battery on "gaming" setting with w860cu?
-
Gaming setting? You mean while gaming or in high performance mode?
While gaming well I don't think any laptop can game really long on battery.. maybe 45min tops? If high performance, then I would guess 1h30 or so. -
It's always a good idea to have a laptop plugged in when gaming, never know when it's gonna die at a important part.
-
well so long as it's a reasonable expectation to stretch the battery out for at least 2 hours for basic webbrowsing and word processing, I think the choice is clear for purchase.
-
You can always get an extra battery, change power profiles and undervolt. I would never miss out on a great laptop due to the battery if it was not too bad.
-
and what I'm saying is that "not too bad" for me is a minimum 2hours.
Seems now that people are thinking they might be able to stretch the m15x 3hours on the big battery.
How would one switch between power profiles? I just talked to sager and the guy on the phone said they never give out battery life because it varies so much based on usage. Also said he has no battery info to share with me either:-(
I really don't want to run into a problem of buying a laptop getting it and then finding out that it doesn't work for me. there also doesn't seem to be a better choice for me right now though. -
At this point, nobody knows for sure. Early projections seem to put the battery life at about 2-2.5 hours max and <1 hour under full load. If ensuring it can run over two hours is crucial, you might want to wait for initial user reviews.
Or, you could consider the M860TU. With an undervolted 25W processor, I'm sure 2.5+ hours is possible. -

Battery life testing....

Definately not apples to apples and
"Your mileage may vary based on usage". Lol. -
Yeah, i7 could be both be very power friendly on lighter single thread, or rather battery draining on full load. Thus battery depends vastly on usage.
As for gaming on battery, No sir, just dont go there. The GeForce GPU auto downclock when away from AC, not much you could do about it. -
The laptop could probably last quite long if it had an extra integrated GPU, and if you could manually set the i7 on 1 core, underclocked to 1.5ghz-ish. Windows 7 should probably work fine with that. But then again, it doesn't have an extra integrated GPU and Intel probably won't allow you to manually adjust the i7 for the time being.
w860cu battery life?
