You will definitely notice difference in games compared to the 260m :)

Go for it! It's not too expensive either.

Thre 5870M will completely dominate the 260M. No contest there.

Only thing to consider is a potential price drop on the 5870M one the 480M becomes widely available. So it might be worth waiting to see.

5870 MR, because of Direct X 11 and its still cheaper than a 285m, and has a slightly better performance.

I wouldn't upgrade. You'll see a performance boost, but is it really worth $300 plus right now?

I would just overclock your 260M, then wait until you know for sure that the 5870 is the best card that will ever be available to the W860CU.

    Just another perspective to consider.

Mm...wouldn't it pay it wait until the GTX260m can't run the majority of games out there before upgrading? The 280m should have at least another year or two years maybe of running everything right?

    Absolutely. That's a good point.

The way I see it, if you can manage 30fps, at your native res + High settings, there's no need to upgrade. If you don't mind lowering the resolution, then you can extend the longevity of your hardware.

The OP is gaming at 1600x900, so I just don't see the necessity to upgrade at this present time. If the MXM 3.0 260M is still gaming above 30fps, and the 5870 won't extend that to 60fps, there is no profit gained from gaming at 45fps. There's no tangible difference.

But didn't you just answer your own question? I have a Gtx280m with similar performance and im confident that our cards will play anything out there for at least two years....

And in two years i think we'll finally start to see some dx11 games...and i would rather save the few hundred bucks and use it towards a new laptop to again last 2 to 3 years...
