Lately, I've been noticing on my 5793 that the right palm rest is getting warm to the touch even when just browsing and word processing. I can't imagine why it would be doing this any more now than before (the only thing i've done recently is flashed the BIOS to fix my key skipping issue). Is it possible that I just haven't noticed this before for some reason, or is it cause to worry - that maybe some fan isn't working properly or something?

If your temps haven't increased, then you just didn't notice it before, but both my 5793's had a warm palm rest.

What is located hardware wise under the right palm rest? -
I think it's the GPU. Can someone verify?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The HHD is directly underneath right palm rest on the 5793. My 5791 gets a little toasty there too. What is your HHD temperature? If it's within normal, then I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, it may be a good thing. With fall and winter rapidly approaching it could be a really nice hand warmer.
