I hope i did not imagine it, but was'nt there a steel series keyboard for the np9170em? I believe it was an upgrade option when I purchased the laptop from xotic pc. I am not seeing it now.

Yes its a legit upgrade from the stock keyboard. People have ordered this and there were reviews about it.
You are gonna have to talk to Xotic about whether they still offer it. PM them on the forums.

Used to be available but the maker of it asked it be removed as they only wanted it on MSI computers. If you can get one, they will work but are a little bigger so need some trimming so they fit properly. Also the Fn keys will be mapped differently.

I believe it was the MSI one they were fitting, but the makers have an exclusivity deal with MSI.

all in all - buy an external keyboard and dont fiddle with the built-in one too much.

I don't know about that, a little mod if you can get hold of one and there is no need and it saves space.
