the dealer contacted me about my p170em that i ordered and he told me something really weird , the 7970m with 3610QM is producing 79c after 5 min of full load while the 2670QM " which i choose" is producing 90c after 5 min of full load , i told him to ship anyway because i read over several threads that temps till 95c are alright. but what is the explanation for this?

bad paste job on the CPU. id buy some gelid extreme or noctua and repaste anyway. both of those are better than the stock paste and ICD7

"burn in" is close to a myth, one of tech sites have did a group review in which burn in periods made very little difference to compounds performance (1-2c difference, statistically close enough that it could be attributed to environmental factors).
bad paste job is the most likely explanation, i would repaste both. my machine came with ICD7, i repasted with Gelid GC Xtreme and my CPU stays around 70c in games, 80c after 5 minutes of prime. My GPU will just about reach 80c after 5 mins of furmark.

the 7970m paste is fine because like i said it was showing 79c with i7-3610qm , the issue is with the i7-2670qm that is causing the 7970m temps to hit 90c at full load

could it be that 7970m heatsink moved during cpu swap, thus cracking the thermal compound? i had something similar happen after a flight where when i landed all of the sudden my temps were much higher, - it turns out my suitcase must had been pretty shaken up, which cracked the thermal paste layer. A repasting fixed the issue immediately.

nop gpu and cpu temps are not inter-related
