If a guy can afford 3K/4K machine, I am sure they wouldn't mind to pay 1-2 hundred extra for a lighter/stronger/thinner chassis. at least I myself would jump right on the 9262 boat.

if it brought the weight and size down, and also magically brought power consumption down, I would buy it too.

How would a carbon fiber chassis bring down the power consumption down?

And here was me thinking it was my Q9550 draining my battery so quick! It turns out it was the sneaky chassis all along! :D

Well, if Clevo won't do it, perhaps some enterprising owner who wants the ultimate case mod would DIY....if it's feasible.

Killer Notebooks does a Carbon Fiber application to the lid. It's definitely not a Carbon Fiber Chasis though

yeah, unfortunately that would just make it look better and not add any other benefits.

just for clarification, carbon fiber would not lower power consumption. If it magically did, then I would totally get some.

I seriously think Clevo should think about modifying the whole chassis(both M570TU and 9262) to carbon fiber!!
Clevo's chassis is becoming old! the same plastic and all!

    I mean u guys are right!! :)
it'll be lighter, stronger, sturdier(in terms of body flex) and definitely the type of chassis these monster notebooks deserve!! :D

Generally the laptops can hold upto 4-5 yrs MAX!!
Carbon Fiber Chassis will significantly improve the life span + look of the laptop!! :)

As for the power, i don't see how to decrease the consumption unless the CPU and GPU undergo a further die shrink :D + mobo is optimized for low power consumption even at high performance!!

But definitely, Carbon Fiber Chassis is essential and clevo and other resellers should offer it as an option on the laptop config page!

    I wouldn't mind paying a hundred or 2 if i get a top class chassis! :D

Why is everyone so sure a proper all-carbon-fibre chassis would only add about $200 (that's US$, I assume?) to the price? I don't know yea or nay, just curious if everyone else here has done their research on pricing structural carbon fibre fabrication.

^^acer uses carbon fiber on their ferrari series, and they are pretty cheap. I was guessing $200, but wouldn't mind $400 or so.

But do they use it just for decoration, or for vital structural members?

They are, unfortunately they also come with pretty crappy specs. You wind up a premium paying for the pretty extras/color/name/carbon fiber. That's precisely what people want though. Better comparison might be the Sony SZ series with the premium and standard models.

Of course, Sonys are priced somewhat higher than others too.

Shyster1, i just did a quick research, apparently acer did it for decoration. however, there are some laptop did constructed by whole carbon fibre, like sony vaio x505.

Folks, there's a world wide shortage of carbon fiber because it's in such high demand. I'm serious, just google it and you'll see. I found out about it ~5 years back because the price of carbon fiber masts for my windsurfing addiction skyrocketed. The demand far outstrips the supply. These companies couldn't produce carbon fiber products fast enough. Carbon fibers these days come at a hefty premium.

I don't know if carbon fiber would actually lengthen the life of the notebook though. It might be cooler (a little) and lighter, but not much else. I'm hoping my 570tu will last at least a decade so I can give it to my bro when I get something better after college.
