    Ive been wondering since I got this p170em about this small rectangular plastic cover on the front of the laptop on the left hand side (same distance in as the power LEDs on the right side).
    Looks like some sort of IR receiver ? Doesn't say what it is in the manual .

    Looks like an IR window but if there's actually a receiver in there, I'm not sure.

    in simple words i have no idea. and as you said its listed by a number but doesnt tell you what it is.

    it does look like a receiver. could be for tv remote control or something like that.

    best wait for a reseller to give some light on this one.

    Like I said above I'm not sure what it's for but my best guess it's for those who got the TV tuner card. Like MrDJ said, for a remote control.

    Mine has it, too.

    I think it is for a TV remote. If you open the bottom there is a slot for a tv module. At least it is labled as such.

    My old Clevo..(5years ago?) had a internal tv card.

    My P150HM has this also and it has a TV antenna output on the left side.
    Resellers stopped selling internal TV cards due to their low demand.
    People nowadays dont watch TV on their laptops.
    And if they do, one can buy an USB TV Tuner for cheaps and use it on all PCs that he owns.
    No reason to buy the internal TV tuner anymore...
